River City Wrestling #105
Winnipeg Convention Cente, Winnipeg, MB

We are welcomed by the hosts Ron Strong & Mike Stone.

Finish from last week's show after we ran out of time;
Bobby Duncum charges the ring and attacks the Destroyer, getting Chris Lyon disqualified. Lyon and Duncum go to work on the champ and then begin to unmask him. They have the mask half off when Mike Valiant hit the ring wielding a crutch, obviously his knee still injured. He managed to knock Lyon down but was then delivered a stiff lariat by Duncum. The big Texan went to work on Valiant with a series of boots to the injured knee until Destroyer recovered and rolled up Duncum with a flying crucifix, and then rolled him out of the ring. Destroyer pulled his mask back down and picked up the crutch daring Duncum to come back in the ring. Instead the big Texan distracted the Destroyer while the England sisters who had just come down from the back resuced Chris Lyon pulling him to safety.
Duncum and Destroyer point back and forth as the villians retreat.

The fans had a hard time believing it but Destroyer and Valiant now appeared to have a common cause; hatred of Chris Lyon.

Promo for "Wrestling Summit" featuring "Heat of the Moment" by Asia as background music. Already scheduled to appear, Abdullah the Butcher, The Destroyer, Jerry Blackwell, Chris Lyon, Superstar Billy Graham, The Bounty Hunter, Keith Hart, Bobby Duncum, Angelo Mosca, the Roughnecks, Ray Stevens, Pat Patterson, and Judy Martin.

In-ring interview:
Ron Strong is interviewing RCW tag team champions the Roughnecks (Stan Rodgers and Russel Riggs) when they are interrupted by Rob Flett & Neil Sutherland. Basically the newcomers challenge the champs to a match, and the champs, being the good guys accept the challenge for an impromptu match. The announcers inform us that it is a non-title match as no contract has been signed.

Opening Bout:
Non-title Match
The Roughnecks (Stan Rodgers & Russel Riggs), combined wt 555 lbs.
v
Rob Flett & Neil Sutherland, combined wt of 430 lbs.

The Roughnecks have very little trouble overpowering their smaller and very green opponents. What little offense the native duo do get in is a result of double teams or illegal moves like a chop to the throat or an eye gouge. However, Chris Lyon makes an appearance at ringside which distracts the ref and the champions. This allows Bobby Duncum to slip into the ring from the other side undetected and deliver a lariat from behind on Riggs and then a bulldog. Duncum and Lyon vacate the area but the damage has been done. Flett holds the arms of Riggs and it allows Sutherland to come off the top rope with a tomahawk right between the eyes of the co-champion. Rodgers is too late in trying to make the save.

Flett & Sutherland defeated the Roughnecks by pinfall after a top-rope tomahawk and outside interference at 8:32

Bout #2:

RCW Women’s Championship Match

Jeannie Rahib (champion), Toronto, ON

V

Judy Martin, Oakland, California

Rahib started strong controlling Martin with several different versions of armlocks, forcing the veteran to scramble to the ropes for a break. Martin turned the match around by nailing Rahib with a back elbow on a break, and then whipped her into the buckle. The veteran slammed her fist into the face of Rahib several times, before driving her shoulder into the gut and chest of the local champion. After bieling her out of the corner she went to work with several kneedrops. The last attempt though saw Rahib roll out of the way. The champ was on her feet and the two exchanged punches and kicks which saw them spill out of the ring. Referee Lynn Powell managed to get them back into the ring, but Martin caught Rahib on re-entry with a knee to the gut. Martin went to work with a clothesline, diving shoulderblock, and a splash from the 2nd rope. She went for a piledriver finish but Rahib managed to backdrop her way out of it. The champ sent the veteran to the ropes, but Martin ducked under a clothesline attempt and then nailed Rahib on the rebound off the ropes with a flying bodypress to get the win. New champion!!!

Judy Martin defeated Jeannie Rahib by pinfall after a flying bodypress at 5:41

[Judy Martin wins the RCW Women’s Championship]

Backstage interview:

Ron Strong interviews RCW champion the Destroyer. The champ says he has recovered bodily from the attack last week by Chris Lyon and Bobby Duncum. But he has not recovered his peace yet, and won’t do so until he has made Lyon pay. He says he doesn’t know what Duncum’s game is yet but he suggests he return to Minneapolis or Miami and leave River City before he becomes the Destroyer’s primary target. The champ also says that he had a long talk with Mike Valiant and is really impressed by the change the young man has gone through over the last few months; seeing Chris Lyon as if for the first time. He says he feels Valiant will be a great allie but in the meantime has told Valiant to stay away, and recover fully from his knee injury before returning to action. Lyon and Duncum are dangerous enough when you are 100% but they may be fatal if taken off at less then full throttle. He finishes by challenging Lyon to another match next week. He says he will once again put the title on the line but suggests the match be made a lumberjack match to keep Duncum and anyone else from interfering.

Promo for the local news tonight. Ronald Reagan spoke to the American people in a radio address on the eve of the 207th birthday of the United States, the observance of Independence day, the ongoing negotiations with the USSR for arms reductions, and thanking the democrats who saw the light and voted for the MX missile project. Here is a short excerpt from the speech;

"Now, you may not think of yourself or our democracy as an experiment, but look around. All over the world, millions and millions of people still live under tyranny. Their leaders claim that they're the wave of the future, that history is on their side. And yet, their people look to us for hope. Their people look to America as the cradle of freedom, the place where the great civilized ideas of individual liberty, representative government, and the rule of law under God are realities."
