River City Wrestling #164
Edmonton, Alberta

Ron Strong and Mike Stone welcome us to another edition of River City Wrestling. Just signed for tonight’s main event will be a #1 contenders match between Angelo Mosca and Kevin Kelly. The winner will receive a title shot at Jim Brunzell’s Heavyweight title on March 20th. Also tonight Butch Reed defends his TV title against the WWF’s Tiger Chung Lee. Marty Goldstein will address the actions of the Triumvirate, including Chris Lyon’s striking of George Gadasky. And finally Miss Hartel’s Bistro returns with special guest the new RCW champion Jim Brunzell.

Opening Bout:
Robbie Royce & Super Uke and Neil Sutherland & Rob Flett ended in a no-contest at 5:18
-Chris Lyon and Bobby Duncum showed up out of the blue and attacked Royce & Super Uke. When they were done with them they turned their attention to Sutherland and Flett who mistakingly thought they were doing them a favor. Once all 4 men were laid out Chris Lyon grabbed a mic and started into a rant about how Gadasky, Brunzell, and Goldstein were all conspiring against him. This lasted for a minute or so until Angelo Mosca and Jim Brunzell ran down and cleared them from the ring.

Promo;
With Brunzell and Mosca still in the ring, matchmaker Marty Goldstein came down and joined them. He said that Lyon had got away with too many despicable acts, including throwing antiseptic into Butch Reed’s eyes. Well finally someone fought through all the cheating and beat him. However, Lyon once again crossed the line by punching an official. Goldstein says that kind of behavior is not tolerated in RCW and Chris Lyon is suspended immediately and indefinitely for those incidents mentioned as well as the match they just ruined. Brunzell and Mosca however couldn’t leave well enough alone and did everything short of beg Goldstein to reinstate Lyon so they could settle the score next week. Reluctantly Goldstein agreed of course and set the match for next week with Mosca and Brunzell taking on Lyon and Duncum. Goldstein then announces that if it is to settle scores then next week’s match will be a Bunkhouse Brawl.

Bout #2
Natasha defeated Tawney England by pinfall after flying headscissors at 7:27

-This newcomer Natasha is quite a little sparkplug, barely over 5 foot tall but an explosive offense and able to overcome the brawling, catfighting style of England to pick up the win.

Interview;
Natasha gets her first mic time. She is a first generation Canadian from Alberta, her parents having emigrated from Yugoslavia. She has her sites set on developing her skills and challenging Judy Martin for the Canadian Women’s title, so that when she wins it, it will be a Canadian holding that title.

Bout #3
Gama Singh defeated Elton Stanton by submission to the Karachi clutch at 4:35

-squash match

Promo;
We are given an injury update on Randall “Tex” Cobb who was taken out on a stretcher after the post match attack by Kevin Kelly last week. Cobb spent several days in the hospital getting over the effects of being powerbombed through the announce table. While he is up and around he will need some extensive rehabilitation on his neck before he can ever step into a wrestling or boxing ring again. The doctors suggest it could be a year before that rehabilitation is completed.

Promo; MGM Studios is proud to release to theatres across the nation this weekend the new comedy, “Teachers” starring Nick Nolte and Ralph Macchio.
A teacher overcomes his frustration in a high-school full of flunkies. As he attempts to educate his students, his attempts to help them gets him into trouble with the school board, which only adds to his problems. Can his students help him out of his troubles?

Bout #4:
Bad News Allen defeated Randy Webber by pinfall after an enzuigiri at 8:08

-Webber had his moments, but basically a squash match.

[end of first hour]

Bout #5
Dynamite Kid defeated Brad Rheinghans by pinfall after a German suplex at 16:48
[approximately 9 minutes shown on television]
-very competitive bout with both men getting their chances to win. In the end DKid just seemed to want it more and was willing to fight harder and dirtier.

Promo; Miss Hartel’s French Bistro (guest: Jim Brunzell)
Hartel had Brunzell recount his steps to winning the title belt that he had displayed around his waist. From his battle royal victory to overcoming the cheating of Chris Lyon, to the agonizing moments waiting for Gadasky’s decision. Brunzell lets on that he thought that the result was going to be reversed, and that he understood Gadasky’s point and wouldn’t have been mad at anyone but himself if that had happened. However he says it made it just that much more sweet when the decision was upheld, and the fact that it was done at least partially based on his reputation as a straight shooter meant a lot to him. Throughout the story Hartel applauds Brunzell’s efforts and seemingly revels in his struggles. The she turns around and asks Brunzell if that’s what he tells himself at night so he can sleep with the title he doesn’t deserve. She calls him a hypocritical cheat. Brunzell says her opinion doesn’t mean anything to him and he prepares to walk away but she takes off one of her high heel shoes and throws it at his head. It misses by a foot but he pauses and turns back anyway. He gets in her face. Suddenly Luc Fortier and Pino Cirella arrive and look to punk out the champ who turns to face them. Their eyes get really wide and they put up their hands and begin to back away. Brunzell looks pleased with himself, but when he turns around he sees the reason for their retreat. King Kong Angelo Mosca is standing there now with his arms crossed and a pissed off look on his face. Mosca tells Brunzell “I have your back”, and they shake hands before leaving. Hartel is left alone on the set, pouting.

Bout #6:
Richard Charland v Ben Bassarab

“Mr. Perpetual Motion” tries to pull the same deal as last week, delaying the start of the match and frustrating his opponent with his jumping jacks and squat thrusts. However this week referee Buddy Lane won’t have any of it and calls for the bell while Charland is still doing thrusts. Bassarab goes right after Charland and takes it to him before he even has time to take off his powder blue satin warm up jacket and pants. In fact Bassarab controls the first few minutes and Charland never gets a chance to take off his warm-up attire. However, Charland reverses a whip to the rope and sends Bassarab to the ropes instead. Charland though doesn’t wait for him to bounce back but follows him instead and catches him with a big clothesline sending him out of the ring. Outside Charland throws Bassarab into the ringsteps and then suplexes him onto the ground. Back inside he presses his advantage but when he goes for a piledriver Bassarab counters with a back body block. After a pair of German suplexes he gets a 2 count. He sends Charland to the ropes and goes for the flying cross body block finisher. Charland though ducks away and Bassarab squarely nails Buddy Lane instead. Charland then delivers a running splash onto Bassarab while he is still lying on top of a stunned Lane. With Lane incapacitated Charland continues to take it to Bassarab, but the plucky hometown boy from Edmonton fights back. He backs Charland to the buckle with a dropkick and follows in for a monkey flip. But Charland reaches into his warm-up pants and pulls out a handful of talc which he throws into the eyes of Bassarab. As the youngster wanders around blindly swinging and trying to clear his eyes Charland attacks with a bulldog from behind. He then nails a belly-to-belly suplex. Buddy Lane is now on the job so Charland follows up with a piledriver and gets the 1, 2, 3.

Richard Charland defeated Ben Bassarab by pinfall after a piledriver at 10:09

Bout #7:

RCW Television Title Match
Butch Reed (champion) v Tiger Chung Lee

In reality Lee was no big threat to Butch Reed despite being a guest from the WWF. Lee had his moments but was overpowered by the TV champ without a lot of fanfare.

Butch Reed defeated Tiger Chung Lee by pinfall after a flying shoulderblock at 7:30
[Butch Reed retains the RCW Television Title]

Main Event
#1 Contenders Match

Angelo Mosca v Kevin Kelly (/w Desiree Petersen)

Yikes, two guys who really have a hard time carrying a bout. Lots of restholds and cheating going on, between punches and kicks. A fairly even match that spent almost as much time outside the ring as inside. Kelly was vicious again in this match and rammed Mosca head first into the announce table. He couldn’t lift up Mosca to put him through the table, so he did the next best thing, overturning the table and using it to ~waffle~ Mosca across the head. Kelly managed to beat the 10 count and return to the ring to pick up the win while Mosca was laid out.

Kevin Kelly defeated Angelo Mosca by countout at 8:14

Post-Match:
Jumpin’ Jimmy Brunzell
comes running out to attend to Mosca who has not moved yet. Kelly of course takes the opportunity to blind side Brunzell. He then sets the table back up and powerbombs Brunzell onto the table. He has both Mosca and Brunzell laid out as the show ends.

That’s it for another edition of River City Wrestling.

See ya next week!!

River City Wrestling #165
Winnipeg Convention Centre, Winnipeg, Manitoba

Pre-Match:
“Magnificent” Kevin Kelly comes to the ring with his valet Desiree Petersen. Kelly won the #1 contender spot last week and will meet Jim Brunzell for the RCW Heavyweight title next week. Brunzell of course is involved in the main event Bunkhouse Brawl tonight teaming with Angelo Mosca against Chris Lyon and Bobby Duncum.
Kelly says that the delay is the only thing saving Brunzell from losing his title. He claims that he will destroy Brunzell, take the title, and there will be no rematch because Brunzell will be broken. But since he is hiding tonight Kelly says he has no choice but to have a little warm up match. So he has gone to the AWA and brought in Brunzell’s former tag team partner, from the World champion High Flyers!! The fans pop big for this. Kelly asks the crowd why they would cheer for a skinny little boy, when they could cheer for him, the prototype of all males. This brings him to a posing session while Desiree takes over on the mic. She challenges Greg “Gagme” to come out to the ring and try and help out his former tag partner.
Down the aisle comes a very skinny looking guy wearing yellow tights, with matching boots. He is followed by referee Wyatt Hall shaking his head in disbelief. Gagme pumps his fists in the air and the fans boo him unmercifully. He enters the ring and takes the mic from Desiree. Looking at the ringside camera Greg jumps up and down and says “Hi Dad, it’s me, on TV”. Desiree takes back the mic and hands Greg a t-shirt, which she tells him to put on because its disgusting looking at his ribs sticking out his side. Gagme puts the t-shirt on, and it’s a High Flyers t-shirt, which he points to with pleasure and jumps up and down. Kelly then clotheslines him from behind and unsure what to do referee Wyatt Hall calls for the bell.

Opening Bout:
Kevin Kelly (/w Desiree Petersen) v “Greg Gagme”
Squash match. Kelly though nails a flying dropkick and does a brief Indian deathlock, both Brunzell signature moves. He then finishes him off with the Gagne sleeper.

Kevin Kelly defeats Greg Gagme by submission to the Gagne sleeper at 3:29

Bout #2:
Neil Sutherland & Rob Flett defeated Super Uke & Robbie Royce by pinfall when Sutherland pinned Royce after a double team piledriver at 7:30

-this was the re-do from the match last week which was destroyed by Lyon and Duncum.

Bout #3:
Corrie England defeated Kari Mashore by pinfall after a hairplane spin at 6:56

-Mashore is a rookie out of Thunder Bay Ontario who looked a bit out of her league against the younger England sister who wrestles a very vicious style of match.

Promo; Miss Hartel’s Bistro (with special guest Natasha)
The young Yugoslavia-Canadian who has made a big impact in her first couple of matches looked very nervous as the guest and having to speak in front of the audience. Her English is still not 100%, but then again neither is Hartel’s, but this didn’t stop Hartel from making Natasha feel like a hick every time she stumbled over a word or phrase. Finally she just shut up in frustration and embarrassment, perhaps even taking the jeers of the crowd as aimed at her instead of their target Hartel. The former French teacher just stared at her and asked if she was dumbfounded or just plain dumb. Then the England sisters showed up, Corrie still showing the sweat from her earlier match. They stood beside Natasha and told Hartel to back off and leave the girl alone. Tawney said that it takes a lot of courage for her to step in the ring, and that’s something they say they haven’t seen from Hartel. The fans are shocked and cheer the sisters comments. They tell Hartel she needs to step in the ring for herself and get slapped around a bit before she has the right to talk to a competitor like that. Hartel begins to pout. The England sisters still flanking Natasha put their arms around her…and then proceed to drive her head hard into the table. The youngster’s head snaps back and she hits the mat hard, not moving. Tawney nails her with a legdrop and then Corrie delivers a hairplane spin. They stand over Natasha and taunt her before leaving. The fans jeer the sisters and chant “boot, boot, boot”.

Bout #4:
Brad Rheinghans defeated Doug McColl by submission to the cross face chicken wing at 5:41

-squash match

[end of first hour]

Bout #5:
Re-match
Ben Bassarab v Richard Charland

Referee Buddy Lane corners “Mr. Perpetual Motion” as he enters the ring, and warns him against doing Jumping Jacks etc. He then makes him take off his warm-up track suit and then proceeds to check him over for foreign objects real well. Charland is taken aback by the search, insinuating that Lane might be enjoying the search a bit more then he should. Charland then tells Lane to search Basarab but the ref won’t have anything to do with that, and calls for the bell.
Bassarab goes right after Charland and controls the first couple of minutes nailing monkey flips, dropkicks, an elbow from the 2nd rope, and a German suplex. Charland though takes a powder after being sent to the ropes. Bassarab makes the mistake of trying to follow him out of the ring and Charland grabs him by the feet and pulls him hard to the floor. He then chokes him with his boot while arguing with Lane. Back inside Charland uses the ring rope to choke Bassarab drawing the ire once again of Lane. Bassarab catches him with a kick to the gut and follows with an inverted atomic drop and a clothesline. The two men trade the advantage back and forth several times in rapid fire succession. Then Bassarab blocks an attempt by Charland to take him off the top turnbuckle, and Bassarab drives Charland to the mat with a lariat instead. The Edmonton youngster follows up with a pair of snap suplexes and then nails his cross body block finisher. But Charland manages to roll though it, gets 1, grabs a hold of the tights, gets 2, and , Buddy Lane notices at the last moment and calls for the break. Charland gets to his feet and argues with Lane. This is a mistake as Bassarab nails him from behind and then hits a fisherman suplex into the pin for the victory.

Ben Bassarab defeated Richard Charland by pinfall after a fisherman suplex at 8:24

Post-Match:

As Bassarab is getting his arm raised in victory he is attacked from behind by Charland. The Quebecer stomps away at Bassarab and then nails a piledriver. Not satisfied yet he lines him up for a second piledriver, but Bassarab is saved when the tag team champion Hart Brothers hit the ring and take out Charland.

Promo; “Good Rockin’ Tonight” with Terry David Mulligan

Bout #6:
RCW Tag Team Title Match

The Hart Brothers (champions)
V
Leon Fortier & Pino Cirella (/w Miss Hartel)

Fortier and Cirella jumped the Hart Brothers before the bell as the Harts were handing their tag belts to referee Kenny Jay. They then kept the advantage on young Bret Hart for several minutes using quick tags and double teams on the tag outs. Eventually though he somersaulted his way to a tag to his brother who went to work on Cirella. Keith worked over the legs of the youngster to a point where he couldn’t stand up anymore. Bret tagged in after a couple minutes of recovery on the apron and continued his brother’s work on the legs. He then put Cirella in the figure-four and probably would have got the win but Fortier came in and broke it with a kick to the head. This brought Keith into the ring who cleared Fortier out. The legal men Bret and Cirella were both still down. Bret was on his feet first at the count of 8 and ready to resume his attack when Richard Charland came down to ringside and started to yell at the Hart Brothers. The champs went out to confront him and it turned into a brawl with the two brothers fighting Charland into the stands. Fortier went out to give Charland a hand and even things out, but his partner Cirella was still in the ring. Kenny Jay counted out the tag champions.

Promo; TV’s freshest new hit “Miami Vice” is back with a new episode :The Hit List” this week. Tubbs works to save Crockett and his family from falling victim to an Argentinean assassin hired by Calderon.
And the “A-Team” is back in action this week in a new episode “Timber!”. The A-Team intercedes when a union organizer tries to put a small logging operation out of business.

Main Event
Bunkhouse Brawl

Jim Brunzell & Angelo Mosca v Chris Lyon & Bobby Duncum

All 4 men wore various cowboy attire, but referee George Gadasky confiscated some boot spurs on Mosca as well as a bull rope brought in by Duncum. This was Texas Tornado style with all 4 men in the ring (or out) at a time. The match would only end by a 10 count on one of the competitors.
It’s not very easy or useful to try and describe the action of this match as it was just a big pier 6 brawl with various combinations of the 4 men going at it. They battled in the ring, out of the ring, and in the stands. Everything was used as a weapon including Jim Brunzell’s Heavyweight championship belt. Brunzell was the first one busted open and was bleeding pretty good by the end of the bout. Mosca was the only one of the 4 spared from shedding blood. As could be expected Brunzell and Lyon spent more time matched up against each other as did Duncum and Mosca.
With Duncum and Mosca taking turns inside the ring trying to ram each other into an exposed turnbuckle, outside Lyon tried to nail Brunzell with an elbowdrop from the announce table. However, Brunzell managed to bring up his title belt which had been lying underneath him and used it to nail the former champion. Just as it looked like that might be the end of the match, Kevin Kelly came onto the scene. He grabbed Brunzell in a full nelson from behind and started to shake him like a rag dog. Instead of counting out Lyon which he could have done Gadasky instead turned his attention into trying to get Kelly to break the hold. Brunzell managed to launch himself backward off the ring apron with his feet, but Kelly still managed to hold on. Finally Kelly turned the full nelson into a slam, driving Brunzell hard onto the announce table which had collapsed on one side from earlier abuse. Brunzell rolled off the table and was out cold, but that didn’t seem like it was going to stop Kelly. Back inside Mosca had the advantage but when he tried to resuce Brunzell he was caught from behind by Duncum. Outside the ring as Kelly dragged Brunzell up by his hair Butch Reed suddenly arrived on the scene and began to hammer at Kelly. The two of them split off from the match duking it out to the backstage area. In the meantime Lyon recovered and drove Brunzell onto the table once again with a snap suplex, breaking the table in half. Lyon staggered to his feet and helped Duncum hold off Mosca while the ref made the 10 count on Brunzell.

Chris Lyon & Bobby Duncum defeated Jim Brunzell & Angelo Mosca by 10 count in a Bunkhouse Brawl at 18:02

For two straight weeks the new champion has ended the show being driven through a table, and lying unmoving on the ground. The camera gets a close up of a knocked out Brunzell as the show comes to an end.

That’s it for another edition of River City Wrestling.

See ya next week!!!

Opening Bout:
Neil Sutherland defeated Big Daddy Splash by pinfall after a side suplex at 6:28

-squash match, but Sutherland had problems putting away a big guy like Splash. He had to settle for a side suplex after failing to hit with a full nelson slam and a powerbomb.

Interview:
Richard Charland introduces RCW to his friends from Quebec the Della Serra Brothers, Rocky and Bob. They are here to join Charland in teaching the Stampede boys, Bassarab, and the Harts a lesson on where the toughest wrestlers in the country come from.

Bout #2
Robbie Royce defeated Rob Flett by pinfall after a missile dropkick at 5:30

-upset for the youngster Royce. Maybe he has some upside potential.

Promo; Miss Hartel’s Bistro (/w special guests the England Sisters)
Things still seem tense between Hartel and her guests, as its obvious to see that the Sisters have no use for the prissy Hartel, and she has no use for their “headbanger” fashion sense. However in the end Corrie challenges Natasha to a fight tonight and invited Hartel to be the special guest referee. Natasha comes out to accept the challenge of course. At first Hartel says no to being referee because she doesn’t have a thing to wear. However, with a little coaxing by the England Sisters she is soon brought on board for the match.

Bout #3
Bad News Allen defeated Brian Jewel by pinfall after an enzuigiri at 3:51

-squash match

Interview:
Chris Lyon and Bobby Duncum come to the ring. They challenge Butch Reed to a match tonight. Reed comes out to accept and somehow gets talked into accepting a handi-cap match against both men.

Bout #4
Special guest referee: Miss Hartel
Natasha v Corrie England

Hartel of course played favorite for Corrie England, but even that wasn’t enough as this youngster Natasha has some real talent. Hartel also seemed to be more concerned with her referee outfit (a lime green and white stripe unitard) then in the match (as did many of the male fans). In the end Hartel hesitantly made the 3 count when Natasha hit her finisher, and even though it was slow it still provided Natasha with the win. Natasha has now defeated both Corrie and Tawney England and has to be considered for a shot at Judy Martin’s Canadian Women’s title soon.

Natasha defeated Corrie England by pinfall after a flying headscissors at 8:09

[end of first hour]

Bout #5
Handi-cap match

Butch Reed v Chris Lyon & Bobby Duncum

Reed had his moments especially against Lyon, but after a while he was beaten down by the odds. He made a last minute flourish which ended when Lyon pulled down the top rope from the apron and Reed went sailing over it to the floor below. Back inside Duncum punished Reed and then nailed the bulldog finisher.

Chris Lyon & Bobby Duncum defeated Butch Reed by pinfall when Duncum pinned Reed after a bulldog at 8:43

Post-Match:

Lyon and Duncum continued to beat on Reed until Jim Brunzell came down to the ring to clear out the villains.

Bout #6

Ben Bassarab & Brad Rheinghans
v
Rocky & Bob Della Serra

Very even match. Bob Della Serra was the biggest of the 4 wrestlers and did the most damage. The advantage changed hands continuously without any real close pinfalls. The match spilled outside where a 4 man brawl occurred until referee Wyatt Hall broke it up. Back inside the Della Serras used a opportune time to nail Bassarab with a double clothesline. Bob then gave Bassarab an airplane spin and picked up the win.

Rocky & Bob Della Serra defeated Bassarab & Rheinghans by pinfall when Bob pinned Bassarab after an airplane spin at 10:47

Post-Match:

Richard Charland joined the Della Serras in the ring. They declared themselves the Quebecois, and announced a French Revolution. Rocky talked about how for years all the attention has gone to the western Canadian wrestlers, especially the Stampede pretty boys like Bassarab and the Hart Brothers, while the best wrestlers in the world toiled away in obscurity in Quebec because of prejudices against the French speaking Canadians. Charland says it is time to bring the fight out west. The Della Serras have their sites set on the Hart Brothers titles.

Bout #7
RCW Tag Team Title Match
The Hart Brothers (champions)
v
Leon Fortier & Pino Cirella (/w Miss Hartel)

Fortier and Cirella lucked into a countout win last week against the champs thanks to the distraction of Richard Charland. This week they had no such luck despite the attempts by Hartel to interfere and persuade referee Kenny Jay to see things her way. The Hart Brothers controlled much of this match and took it with ease.

Main Event
RCW Heavyweight Championship

Jim Brunzell (champion)
v
"Magnificent"Kevin Kelly (/w Desiree Petersen)

Brunzell starts off strong using his speed but after about a minute Kelly nails him with a short clothesline. He then picks him up off his feet by the throat and slams him to the mat. The big man stops to pose and taunt the crowd. This allows Brunzell to fire back at him with closed fists, but Kelly nails Brunzell with a haymaker. He then locks on the full nelson and punishes the champ until he manages to hook his foot over the bottom rope. Referee George Gadasky calls for the break but Kelly just pulls Brunzell away from the ropes and then swings him around a couple of times in the full nelson before slamming him to the mat. Gadasky gets in Kelly’s face over that action, which brings Petersen up on the apron yelling at the ref. This of course is just a distraction which allows Kelly to slap on a chokehold.
Kelly then works the champ over with a seated head scissors. Brunzell eventually does a handstand to pop out of it and then does a kind of dropkick to Kelly’s chest as he’s still in a sitting position. Brunzell sends the challenger to the ropes and gets good elevation on a back body drop. Kelly struggles to his feet and is nailed in the chest by a signature Jim Brunzell flying dropkick. The champ covers and gets 1, kickout with authority. Brunzell puts on a front facelock before they play criss cross off the ropes. Kelly hiptosses Brunzell to the mat and then gives him a double boot rake across the forehead. He then stands on Brunzell’s hair and pulls up on his arms yielding the desired shrieks of pain. Gadasky makes Kelly break and warns him about his behavior.
Kelly nails the champ with a pumphandle slam, and then drops a knee across his head. He goes for the pin but only gets a 2 count. Kelly changes tactics and starts to wear down the champ with an abdominal stretch and then a bearhug.
Brunzell of course makes a big comeback and works a series of spinning toe holds until Kelly leaves the ring to gather his thoughts. Back inside he rakes the eyes of the champ and then smashes his head into the turnbuckles several times. He whips him across the ring into the far turnbuckle and then catches him coming out with a belly-to-back suplex. He covers but only gets a 2 count.
Kelly puts Brunzell in a standing headscissors and then turns it into a face driver. He covers but only gets a 2 count. Frustrated he keeps Brunzell down on the mat with a blatant chokehold. Gadasky counts to 4, Kelly breaks, then reapplies it. Gadasky counts to 4 again, Kelly breaks, then reapplies it. This time Gadasky orders him right off and backs him into a corner. The Magnificent one brushes by Gadasky and goes right after Brunzell, but walks into a drop toe hold which Brunzell converts into a cross face chickenwing. Kelly is surprised by the move and caught right in the middle of the ring. He can’t get out and after about 15 seconds he cries uncle.

Opening Bout:
Robbie Royce defeated Neil Sutherland by pinfall after a missile dropkick at 9:06

“No One Like You” by the Scorpions serenades the Triumvirate to the ring (Chris Lyon, Bobby Duncum, Tawney & Corrie England).
They call out matchmaker Marty Goldstein who accepts their challenge to appear but keeps his distance from outside the ring.
First of all Tawney demands a rematch against Natasha, saying she had a streak of beginner’s luck. Goldstein agrees to the match, adding that Canadian Women’s champion Judy Martin will be in RCW next week on November 3rd, so the winner of this match tonight will get a title shot against Martin next week.
Chris Lyon then reminds Goldstein that two weeks ago he and Duncum defeated Brunzell and Mosca in the Bunkhouse Brawl. Lyon says that he deserves a title shot for this win. Goldstein says that he was just talking to Brunzell in the back and that he wants a piece of you too. But why should Lyon get all the credit? Goldstein says he has had his fair share of title shots, it’s time now for someone else. Tonight it will be Bobby Duncum getting a title shot against Jim Brunzell. But Goldstein continues to address Lyon, it must be your lucky day because he was also just talking to someone else in the back who wants a piece of you; TV champ Butch Reed. So tonight Chris Lyon will face Butch Reed with the TV title on the line. This seems to make both Goldstein and the Triumvirate happy as each thinks they have gained the upper hand.

Billy Robinson & Dynamite Kid defeated Brad Rheinghans & Louis Laurence by pinfall when Robinson pinned Laurence after a double arm suplex at 8:46

-Rheinghans held his own but Laurence proved to be the weak link against the British duo.

Post-Match Interview:
Billy Robinson told announcer Ron Strong that he has been watching RCW’s attempts to bury Dynamite Kid from afar for too long. First there was that silly ban on the brainbuster, then even after DK beat Davey Boy Smith in the Coal Miner’s glove match to send him out of the territory he became the forgotten man. The fans boo Robinson so he turns on them, saying he no longer wrestles at the command of the public rabble. From now on he is here to serve Queen and country, to once again restore the lustre of the British Empire.

Bout #6
Keith Hart and Ben Bassarab fought to a no-contest at 4:19

-what had shaped up to be a good scientific battle between friends ended in a sham when the Della Serra Brothers and Richard Charland invaded the ring attacking the match participants. Bob Della Serra had Keith up in a hangman while Rocky and Charland double teamed Bassarab. Bret Hart came out though, paused to grab a steel chair and hit the ring swinging. He cracked Charland square over the head, knocking him out. The Della Serras though slid out of the ring and pulled Charland with them to prevent any more damage being done.

Post-Match:
The Stampede boys remained in the ring to throw out a challenge to the Quebecois. Since its obvious that they need strength in numbers and refuse to fight fair, like men, then this has to be settled all at one time. Next week they challenge the Quebecois to a six-man tag match. Marty Goldstein comes out and tells the Stampede boys that he agrees. Regardless of what the Quebecois may want, that match is signed for next week, and if the Quebecois don’t show up then it will be their last booking in RCW.

Bout #7
RCW Televison Title Match

Butch Reed (champion) v Chris Lyon (challenger) (/w Tawney England)

Reed went right after Lyon chopping the hell out of him. Lyon tried to run and hide but Reed was determined and almost picked up an early win after a powerslam. He put Lyon in a bearhug which was broken by the former RCW champ with a rake of the eyes. Lyon then clipped Reed’s leg out from behind. He went right to work on the leg by dropping a knee into thigh several times, pulling the hamstrings, and then ramming it across the ringpost. He tried to do it again but this time Reed kicked him off backward. The TV champ got to his feet in the corner and proceeded to chop away at Lyon with one hand while the other supported his weight. However when he tried to explode out of the corner with a clothesline his legs didn’t support it and Lyon took him down with a faceslam to the mat. Lyon got a 1 count. Lyon works his legs for a minute or so and then locks on the figure-four, but Reed manages to reach the ropes for a break. When Lyon tries again Reed hangs on to the ropes. Lyon pulls him off the ropes and he bumps to the ground. But when Lyon tries for the figure-four again Reed is ready and rolls up the champ, he only gets a 1 count. Lyon gets to his feet but Reed smashes him with a punch to the gut. He then does a fireman’s carry but only from his knees, flipping Lyon to the mat. Reed attempts to straddle Lyon and land some punches but referee Kenny Jay puts a stop to the closed fists. Reed struggles to his feet, and Lyon manages to recover first. He tries to kick Reed’s legs out from under him, but Reed leaps forward and takes Lyon down with a forearm to the head. Reed then applies a bow and arrow submission to Lyon. He has the former champ locked in for about 20 seconds when suddenly Bobby Duncum hits the ring with his bullrope.

Butch Reed defeated Chris Lyon by disqualification for outside interference at 7:55
[Butch Reed retains the RCW Television Title]

Post-Match:
Duncum wraps part of the bullrope around his fist and uses it to smash the head of Reed. Using the coarse rope he manages to bust Reed open.
The fans go nuts as Jim Brunzell hits the ring. But Duncum is ready for Brunzell and manages to tie him up. Lyon has recovered by now and finds an opening and nails Brunzell with a knee to the ribs. Lyon begins to work over the ribcage area of Brunzell while Duncum continues to work over Reed. Lyon has decimated the RCW champion and kicks him out of the ring to the floor below. He then helps Duncum wrap the rope around Reed’s neck like a noose. Between the two of them and Tawney England the sadists drop Reed over the top rope and then cinch up on the rope so his legs are dangling down. The fans boo as they realize they are witnessing a lynching.
Reed’s face is covered in blood as it rolls down his face while his hands desperately claw at the rope that is constricting around his neck.
Bad News Allen comes running down to the ring. He’s encouraging Lyon and Duncum to hang Reed!! The ring begins to fill up with debris. Several RCW officials come running down to the ring and Allen points this out to Lyon who then hampers their attempts to help Reed by lifting his legs up.

Allen ~waffles~ Duncum with an enzuigiri to the back of the head, and the arena goes nuts!

Reed falls to the outside of the ring hard. Lyon who is standing on the floor turns in shock to look inside the ring and Allen nails him in the chest with a baseball slide. Allen goes right after Lyon and tosses him head first into the guardrail. He then helps Lyon to his feet just so he can then nail him with an enzuigiri.
The officials have helped take the bullrope off of Reed but he has passed out. Medics appear from the back to help the TV champion as Allen checks on his condition.

Promo;
After a commercial break we return to the ring where Marty Goldstein stands with a microphone. He says he is sick of everyone running around thinking they can abuse officials, fellow wrestlers, and the fans trust. What we just saw he says was the most despicable act he has seen in a wrestling ring in many years. That “stuff” he says died two decades ago in pro wrestling, and its not going to start again here. Goldstein says that because of the actions of Duncum and Lyon tonight, Bobby Duncum is stripped of his title shot at Jim Brunzell.
The fans cheer the news, but then cheer even louder when their champion Jumpin’ Jimmy Brunzell comes staggering down to ringside, his body wrapped to prevent the rib cage from expanding and contracting.
Jim takes the mic from Marty and says no way. He wants a piece of Duncum and he wants him now. The fans go nuts. Goldstein says that isn’t going to happen. Brunzell is obviously injured, his ribs are probably cracked or worse. Goldstein says he is not going to reward the Triumvirate behavior by handing them a golden chance to take the biggest prize in the promotion home with them tonight. Brunzell argues that Duncum is hurting too from the attack of Bad News Allen, but Goldstein says it doesn’t compare to the injuries sustained by the champ.
Brunzell puts his foot down and calls out Duncum. He suggests to Goldstein to get out of the ring or he will probably get hurt.

Big Bad Bobby Duncum comes down to the ring with a determined look on his face. He is backed up by Chris Lyon and the England Sisters. They enter the ring and go right at Brunzell, but Goldstein gets in the way.
The matchmaker says “okay” which stops the Triumvirate for a second. He says the match can go on, but it will not be for the title. It is going to be a non-title match, and Duncum will have to live with moving his title shot to November 10th. Furthermore, he says that Lyon and the England Sisters must go to the back, and if they interfere in the match tonight then it will mean a long suspension from RCW.

Non-Title Match

Jim Brunzell v Bobby Duncum

Brunzell goes hard at the Texan backing him against the ropes with chops and forearm shots. Duncum just covers his head and tries to absorb the blows. He feigns a punch to the ribs which lowers the hands of Brunzell and then brings the other hand over the top and clocks the champ. He drives a knee into Brunzell’s gut and then brings the knee up on Brunzell’s head. Duncum goes to work with a bodyslam but when he tries to drop the knee Brunzell rolls out of the way. Jumpin’ Jimmy goes right after Duncum again backing him against the ropes with shots, and once again Duncum feigns to the ribs causing the champ to overcompensate and opening up a headshot. Duncum works over Brunzell for a couple minutes with the champ mostly trying to protect his ribs which leaves him open to other offense. Brunzell though manages to take back the advantage again but this time his mistake is nailing one of his signature dropkicks, but in doing so he lands right on his ribs. Duncum falls out of the ring and both men need a short reprieve as George Gadasky begins his count.
Brunzell elects to follow Duncum out of the ring and surprises him from behind, ramming him headfirst into the ringsteps. Brunzell then nails him with a running knee to the head. He rolls Duncum back in the ring but when he goes for the Indian Deathlock the Texan lifts up a big foot and plants it squarely into the injured rib cage of the champion.
Duncum has Brunzell on his side with his bad ribs facing up. He uses one arm to put Brunzell in an armbar but he then puts his weight into Brunzell’s ribs with a knee. The champ is screaming in pain but when Gadasky asks him he refuses to submit. Brunzell fights through the pain for about 20 seconds, before Gadasky does the lifting of the arm. It falls once, it falls twice, he keeps it up! But he still shows no signs of breaking out of the hold. Gadasky checks the arm again, it falls once…
Bad News Allen hits the ring. He attacks Duncum from behind nailing him with a judo kick to the back. Duncum gets up and goes at Allen. The two men wrestle to the ground and roll out of the ring. They begin to trade punches on the outside.

Bobby Duncum defeated Jim Brunzell by disqualification for outside interference at 6:37

Post-Match:
Chris Lyon
comes out to make it two on one. He and Duncum manage to subdue Allen and they then get him set up for a piledriver on the announce table. But Jim Brunzell has recovered and saves Allen by brandishing a steel chair. He smashes Duncum across the back and then again right over the back of the head. Lyon runs to save his own skin.

The champ stands tall.

That’s it for another edition of River City Wrestling.

See ya next week!!
