Bout #3:
#1 Contenders Match for Heavyweight title shot

Tex Cobb v Kevin Kelly (/w Desiree Petersen)

Neither one of these guys is much of a worker, so the match consisted of Kelly cheating and then applying various rest holds, and Cobb fighting back with a plethora of punches, kicks, and hiptosses of various ethnicity. In the end Cobb played a bit of rope-a-dope against the ropes and then absolutely clocked Kelly with a closed fist. Referee Kenny Jay was reluctant to make the count because of the closed fist but relented.

Tex Cobb defeated Kevin Kelly by pinfall after a roundhouse right at 7:54

Interview:
Randall “Tex” Cobb is interviewed after the match about his chances next week for the title against Chris Lyon. He gives the usual platitudes and spices it up saying that Lyon still hasn’t got what’s coming to him for what he did to the Destroyer. Cobb says that while winning the title would be the sweetest revenge, he might just have to settle for a quart of blood.

Main Event:
Former RCW Tag Team Title Partners
Bullrope Match

Angelo Mosca v Bobby Duncum (/w Corrie England)

It’s a bullrope match which seems to favor Duncum. The Texan starts strong but it doesn’t take long for the former CFL star to get the hang of it and he busts open Duncum by raking the coarse rope against his forehead. Mosca controls the next few minutes with clotheslines, side suplexes, and bearhugs. Duncum though comes back and ends up hogtieing the legs of Mosca. Even that doesn’t stop King Kong though as he gets some help from referee George Gadasky in getting untangled. Mosca wraps the rope around his arm and elbow and drops his elbowdrop finisher right on the already crimson mask of Duncum. He then drags the Texan to his feet and touches one turnbuckle, two turnbuckles..Corrie England is on the apron and grabs a hold of Mosca. The Canadian star bumps her off the ring apron. She lands on the floor with a shriek and isn’t moving. Gadasky leaves the ring to check on her, and it looks like it might be a neck injury. Inside Mosca touches the 3rd turnbuckle, and the 4th..but there is no ref there to see it.
Suddenly Chris Lyon comes in from the crowd and attacks Mosca from behind, clipping his leg. He pounds on him for a minute until Duncum recovers and begins to choke Mosca with the bullrope that is attached to each man. Gadasky has called down the paramedics who are looking after England and he returns to the ring. He sees Lyon there but its no disqualification so all he can do is send him away. Duncum continues to choke Mosca with the bullrope, then he gives him the bulldog finisher with the rope still tied around his neck. The Texan then drags the Canadian to all 4 turnbuckles for the win.

Bobby Duncum defeated Angelo Mosca in a bullrope match by touching all 4 turnbuckles at 10:05

Post-Match:

Lyon returns to the ring and he and Duncum begin a further beatdown on Mosca. This lasts for a minute until, to a huge ovation from the crowd, Jumpin’ Jimmy Brunzell runs in from the back in street clothes. He has no weapon except his fists and his temper and they are sufficient as he takes turns hammering at Duncum and Lyon before he starts to dish out dropkicks like candy at Halloween. But it ends quickly when for some reason Bad News Allen decides to join the fray from the back and nails Brunzell with an enzuigiri knocking him completely out. Duncum and Lyon recover and just stare at Allen. No one seems to know what to do, so everyone just stands there as the fans jeer.

That’s it for another edition of River City Wrestling.

Announcers Ron Strong & Mike Stone remind us that Chris Lyon will be defending the RCW championship tonight against Tex Cobb. Also, Butch Reed will be defending the TV title against Dynamite Kid. But a new match has been added by matchmaker Marty Goldstein. Since it is usual custom to grant a rematch when a title changes hands, it would be Mosca & Duncum getting a rematch against the Hart Brothers. However, after talking with both men Goldstein believes their differences to be irreconcilable. Therefore, after the events of last week, a match is set for tonight featuring the teams of Angelo Mosca & Jim Brunzell against Bobby Duncum & Bad News Allen with the winner to not only settle a score, but also to become the #1 contenders for the Hart Brothers’ titles.

Opening Bout

Ben Bassarab v Gama Singh

The high flyer Bassarab pitted himself against the mat wrestling veteran Singh. A fairly even match going back and forth. Twice Bassarab missed high risk moves to try and end the match, once coming off the top rope for a dropkick but no one was home, and second a plancha to the outside and again Singh moved out of the way. Learning his lesson he slowed down the risk a bit, and went after the Indian with a German suplex, dropkicks, and then nailed his flying cross body block finisher. But Singh rolled through the move to end up on top, and grabbed a handful of tights to make certain. A very good match to start the show.

Gama Singh defeated Ben Bassarab by pinfall after rolling through a flying cross body block and with a handful of tights at 7:37

Inteview:

After the match a dejected Ben Bassarab was interviewed. He knows that Singh had the tights but says you will always get guys who will take the shortcuts to win, and if you want to be successful and moral in this business you have to be twice as good, and fight through these things. When asked about the recent tactics of his tag partner Phil Lafleur he gets kind of dejected again. The youngster says Lafleur is done with RCW, and has gone on to Quebec to wrestle. Bassarab chalks it up to frustration and says his actions were not usual for Lafleur who he has known for several years. Bassarab apologizes to the fans for any part of those shenanigans he may have played, and assures everyone that is not the way he operates.

Bout #2:
RCW Television Tile Match

Butch Reed (champion) v Dynamite Kid

After about a minute of this match in which Reed controls the challenger things turn around abruptly when DK goes after the knee of the champ. However, beyond just leglocks, stomps, etc, DK goes too far. He ignores the ref’s warnings after wrapping the leg around the ringpost, and slamming it over the ring apron. With Reed’s leg hanging over the edge of the apron DK grabs a chair and smashes it across the knee of Reed. Referee Buddy Lane calls for the bell and DQ’s DK. This doesn’t stop the Brit however as he smashes the knee again with the steel chair. He would have done it a 3rd time but Lane began to wrestle DK for the chair and the Brit thought better then to assault an RCW official and gave up the attack.

Butch Reed defeated Dynamite Kid by disqualification for using a foreign object at 3:05
[Butch Reed retains the RCW Television title]

Post-Match:
The ringside doctor examines Reed and calls for a stretcher but Reed won’t use one. With the help of Buddy Lane and Wyatt Hall he hobbles to the back on his one good leg.

Bout #3:
#1 Contenders Match

Angelo Mosca & Jim Brunzell
V
Bobby Duncum & Bad News Allen (/w Corrie England)

Mosca was a house o’fire to start the match battering Allen until he pretty much had to force Duncum to tag in, as the Texan wanted nothing to do with his former partner. Mosca then battered Duncum with closed fists despite the admonishment of Kenny Jay. Finally Duncum stalled for time, and as he circled around he surprised Jim Brunzell on the ring apron with a smack across the face. Brunzell of course wanted the tag and got it from Mosca. Before he could completely set foot in the ring however he received a kick to the gut by Duncum. Brunzell played Ricky Morton for a couple minutes as Duncum and Allen tagged in. He made a comeback though, and made the tag, but Jay was being distracted by England at the time and didn’t see it. While Jay was putting Mosca out of the ring it allowed Duncum and Allen to nail Brunzell with a double hanging vertical suplex. In fact they held Brunzell up in the air for about 15 seconds. When Jay turned around they still had him up in the air. Jay counted, and just before the 5 count they finally suplexed Brunzell to the mat after around 20 seconds suspended in the air. It’s a minor miracle that Brunzell was able to kick out. He immediately tried to shake off the cobwebs. However, because of that he didn’t see it coming when Allen nailed him with the enzuigiri finisher, a move that no RCW wrestler has been able to survive. Jay counted 1, 2, Mosca broke it up with a kick to the head of Allen. This brought in Duncum but Mosca fought him off as well, and threw him out of the ring. But when Mosca turned around there was Corrie England standing on the ring apron, undetected by the ref and she sprayed perfume into the eyes of Mosca. The big man swatted at his eyes and left the ring area for the back in search of medical help.
Allen was on his feet just before Brunzell but when he tried to pick him up Brunzell countered with a take down and turned it into a single leg Boston crab. Allen fought to the ropes and made the blind tag to Duncum who rocked the unsuspecting Brunzell from behind with a clothesline. The big Texan punished Brunzell for a couple minutes with a straight ahead offense of stomps, punches, bodyslams, and a surfboard. He tagged in Allen who continued the attack. Allen had Brunzell set up for an enzuigiri but Brunzell ducked out of the way and then put Allen into a single leg Boston crab. Allen couldn’t get out of the hold and was on the verge of losing when Duncum entered the ring and broke the move with a kick to the head of Brunzell. Jay ordered Duncum out of the ring. While he was escorting him out King Kong returned with a patch over one eye. He entered the ring behind Allen, tapped him on the shoulder, and when he turned around with big wide eyes he was greeted with a kick to the gut and then a belly-to-belly suplex. Mosca left the ring and Brunzell took over, nailing Allen with 3 successive flying dropkicks. He went for the pin and got only a 2 count. Duncum feigned entering the ring which distracted Kenny Jay. This allowed Allen to nail Brunzell with a punch to the gonads. Mosca tried to enter the ring which sent Jay over there to stop him like the marionette that he is. This of course allowed Duncum to enter the ring and clothesline Brunzell. Jumpin’ Jimmy struggled to his feet just as Allen nailed him with the enzuigiri and got the controversial 3 count.

Bobby Duncum & Bad News Allen defeated Angelo Mosca & Jim Brunzell by pinfall after an enzuigiri at 14:11

Main Event
RCW Heavyweight Championship Match

Chris Lyon (champion) (/w Tawney England)
V
Randall “Tex” Cobb

Cobb is not exactly a well rounded wrestler yet, so this match like most of his matches saw him take a lot of punishment and spend most time on the receiving end of the stick. He fought back at times with his limited offense but was unable to land a big punch to knock out the champ. He brought out a couple of different suplexes but was only able to get a 2 count. Lyon took back control with a rake to the eyes, and after working over the back of Cobb he locked on the Boston crab finisher. Cobb however was able to bridge up and roll to break the hold after about 30 seconds. From his back he was able to put Lyon into an arm scissors but was too close to the ropes. Cobb whipped the champ to the ropes and took him down with a shoulderblock. He wound up the big bolo punch, and yelled to the crowd. “this one’s for the Destroyer”. Lyon though appreciated the tip-off as to what was coming, ducked the punch, and used a crucifix into a roll to get the pinfall (the Destroyer’s signature finishing move).
Cobb hammered the mat with his fists in frustration, while Lyon and England quickly vacated the premises as the fans boo’d them unmercifully.

Opening Bout:
Handi-Cap Match

Kevin Kelly (/w Desiree Petersen)
v
Super Uke & Spudpicker Larkin

Started as your typical handi-cap match, but after getting hammered around for a couple minutes the duo regrouped on the outside. Kelly was too pleased to have the ring all to himself and filled the time posing for the unappreciative crowd.
As Spudpicker returned and locked up with Kelly, Uke showed some creativity by going over and harassing Petersen. Just as Kelly was about to punish Larkin with a powerbomb he noticed this and released Larkin to go resuce his valet. It was a set-up though and Larkin left the ring and came around to ambush Kelly. But just before he could strike Petersen had enough and slapped Uke across the face. She warned Kelly who turned around and caught a charging Larkin with a backbody drop sending him high in the air and crashing down, partially on his partner Uke.
It took a while for the duo to regroup and Kelly again posed for the crowd as he waited, intentionally breaking the countout to give himself more time to pose.
Larkin returned to the ring and was greeted by a stiff clothesline. Kelly scooped Larkin up and powerslammed him down, covered and got 1, 2, and received a kick to the head by Super Uke. While Jay got Uke out of the ring Petersen was up on the apron yelling encouragement to her man. When Jay turned around and saw this he went over to get her down. This allowed Uke to re-enter the ring and kick Kelly. They double teamed Kelly sending him to the ropes and then ducked their heads for a double back body drop. But they telegraphed it just a tad bit early. Kelly stopped in front of them. You could see Uke and Larkin wonder why it was taking so long, they turned to look at each other, and then up at Kelly, who grabbed them by the necks and rammed their heads together. He threw Uke out of the ring, and then took Larkin down with a boot coming off the ropes. He applied a bearhug which he turned into a suplex to get the win. Definitely a lot more fun then the usual two prelim bums against a muscle-head handi-cap match.

Kevin Kelly defeated Super Uke & Spudpicker Larkin by pinfall in a handi-cap match when Kelly pinned Larkin after a bell-to-belly suplex at 6:03

Interview:

Butch Reed is interviewed as he supports himself on crutches. He was injured by that vicious attack last week from Dynamite Kid. Reed says its not as bad as it looks and he expects to be back in action as early as next week once the doctors clear him for action.
Dynamite Kid comes out to the ring with a huge smirk on his face. He circles Reed as a predator would his prey. In Reed’s efforts to keep him at bay he drops his TV title at his feet. He is having trouble so he drops one crutch and then wields the other as a weapon.
Matchmaker Marty Goldstein comes out to break things up. He asks Reed how his knee is and the champ repeats what he said earlier. Goldstein tells Kid that once again his actions here in RCW have gone beyond what can be tolerated. He says DK’s days are numbered here in River City. In the meantime, he doesn’t want to reward Kid’s actions with another title shot as he lost his last one, albeit by disqualification. Kid gets mad, calling Reed a chicken champion and accuses him of hiding under Goldstein’s skirt. This of course gets the desired effect of Reed insisting on a return match. He says he will be ready to go next week. Goldstein reluctantly agrees to make the match but he warns DK about two things. First, as he said earlier he is walking on very thin ice. Second, if he touches Reed anytime up to bell time next week then he will lose his title shot and be suspended.

Promo; MGM studios has a hit on their hands with “Red Dawn” starring Patrick Swayze, C Thomas Howell, Lea Thompson, and Charlie Sheen. Number one at the Box office last week and looking to retain it’s standing this week.

Bout #2

Jim Brunzell v Gama Singh

Singh wants to keep his momentum going after last week’s victory over Bassarab, but Brunzell is a lot more experienced of an opponent. He stymies many of the cheating attempts of Singh, and begins to work over the legs in anticipation of the Indian death lock. Singh though takes control of the match back and hits several suplexes. However, when he attempts to put on the Calcutta clutch (cobra clutch), Brunzell counters with a hammerlock, runs Singh into the ropes and then suplexes him backward with an awkward looking suplex.

Jim Brunzell defeated Gama Singh by pinfall after a reverse hammerlock suplex at 6:35

Bout #3

Ben Bassarab v Vic Gate

For the second straight week Bassarab found himself matched against an opponent who likes to take shortcuts and prefers the ground game. However, Gate does not have the level of experience that Singh does so Bassarab controls much of this match. In desperation Gate takes the bout out of the ring to brawl. However, Bassarab nails him with a dropkick to the knees and then flips himself off the announce table and splashes down on Gate. He rolls Gate back into the ring. He nails a snap suplex and gets a 1 count. He tries to send Gate to the buckle but the former Destroyer protégé reverses it and sends Bassarab in. Gate follows in, but instead of crashing hard Bassarab has flipped his legs up and Gate goes crashing in instead. Bassarab locks him up for a belly-to-back suplex, but Gate nails him with a desperation back elbow. He turns around in the clutches of Bassarab and then pulls the young Albertan head first into the top turnbuckle. Gate then locks Bassarab into a cross face chickenwing and gets the submission.

Vic Gate defeated Ben Bassarab by submission with a crossface chickenwing at 7:41

RCW Tag Team Title Match

Keith & Bret Hart (champions)
V
Bobby Duncum & Bad News Allen (/w Corrie England)

Keith Hart does all right against Allen, but Bret runs into the brickwall that is Duncum. The Texan punishes the small Albertan with elbows, and a long bearhug. He tags out to Keith who fares no better. Keith is in trouble as Duncum and Allen take turns dishing out the punishment. Finally out of desperation Keith grabs a hold of Allen’s leg and refuses to let go eating a few fists and refusing to break as they back into the ropes. Keith then surprised Allen by suplexing him backward using the leg. He makes the tag to Bret who takes Allen down with a drop toe hold. He then nails a dropkick, and then an elbowdrop from the 2nd turnbuckle. Now it’s Allen’s turn to be in trouble as the Hart brothers take turns in the ring. Duncum though comes in and breaks up a pin attempt with his Texas sized boot. Bret tries to come in to counter the attack but Duncum whips Keith straight into his brother. Allen recovers slowly and makes the tag to Duncum. The Texan goes to work on Keith with a sideslam and an elbowdrop for a 2 count. He sets him up for the bulldog but Bret comes in, and takes Duncum down from behind with an inverted facelock neckbreaker. This brings Allen in and he goes right after Bret. The two of them spill outside the ring where they brawl while Keith and Duncum both try and get to their feet. They recover just as the other two re-enter the ring, and we have a big 4 man brawl. Referee George Gadasky gets a little too close to the action and gets knocked down. While he is recovering Corrie England enters the ring wth a steel chair. Allen has Bret’s arms pinned behind him, but he moves at the last second and England ~waffles~ Allen with the chair shot. England leaves the ring as Gadasky recovers. Keith and Bret nail Duncum with a double dropkick sending him out of the ring. Keith covers Allen and gets the 1, 2, 3.

Bout #2:
RCW Television Title Match
Butch Reed (champion) v Dynamite Kid

Reed was still favoring his sore knee from the vicious attack given to him by DK two weeks ago. He tried to make the match a brawl, but it was the villain DK who tried to keep it clean and to work Reed on the ground. He succeeded for the most part until he grew frustrated at his inability to finish off Reed. DK took a break, throwing a couple lazy punches at Reed, which the champion ate and fired back in kind, rocking Kid. He backed him across the ring and then clotheslined him over the top rope to the floor below. Outside the brief battle was fairly even with both men getting in solid whips to the guardrail. Back inside though Reed blocked a DK lariat attempt and then gave him a spinebuster. He scooped up the Brit and nailed a powerslam and got a 2 count. Reed tried for his flying shoulderblock finisher but DK ducked under. DK though got caught on another lariat attempt, and Reed countered with a second spinebuster, this time bridging over for the pin.

Promo;
We see a fine looking, somewhat petite blonde with short hair and blue eyes, sitting behind a desk, wearing a bone-white one piece dress, the knee length hemline above a pair of sexy crossed legs encased in sheer hose. After writing for a minute she looks up at the camera and smiles a foxy smile. She has a French accent, and on the chalkboard behind her are written several phrases in French including “Voulez vouz, avec moi?”.

“Oh, good morning class, Bonjour. J’appelle Miss Hartel, your French teacher for the semester. Or at least that is your fantasy. But no, I am coming to your city, this fall to show you fans some French class.” As she speaks she gets up and unrolls a pointer which she uses to dance playfully off the chalkboard and then off her petite thighs. “So, get ready students. You either have what it takes to please me, or you do not. There is no grading on how you say it, a curve, in my classroom. “

There is knock on her classroom door. She yells to come in, and we see a young student with books in hand, wearing overalls and a plaid shirt open at the chest. He appears to be quite athletic. Perhaps around 6’3, 250 lbs.

“You called for me Miss Hartell?”

“Ah, so good of you to come master Fortier. I am going to need you to help me this fall with a little cultural project.” She leans back against her desk, which lifts the hem of her skirt to where the tops of her stockings are revealed along with the start of a garter belt. “If you think you are up for it, mon cherie?”

“Oh I’m up for it Miss Hartell, yes madame”

“Bon, how do you feel about the color fluorescent green? Very trendy, no?”

Bout #3
Ben Bassarab v Gamma Singh

This was a rematch from two weeks ago when Singh rolled through Bassarab’s flying cross body block finisher and then held a handful of tights for the victory.
Bassarab was a lot more aggressive this week, bending the rules with closed fists and fighting tooth and nail when the action spilled to the outside. Singh tried to forfeit the match by leaving the ring but Bassarab chased him down and nailed him with a snap suplex on the walkway. Back inside he hit Singh with a pair of headbutts, a flying dropkick, and a swinging neckbreaker. He then climbed to the top rope and came off with a diving headbutt to pick up the win.

Ben Bassarab defeated Gamma Singh by pinfall after a diving headbutt at 9:03

Post-Match Interview:

Bassarab gives the usual no more mister nice guy fan favorite speech. He says that he is looking for a title shot at either Butch Reed or Chris Lyon before the end of the year.

Main Event
16 FOOT STEEL CAGE MATCH

Angelo Mosca v Bobby Duncum

Not much action to describe as it was pretty much a slugfest inside the steel fencing. Lots of kicks and punches and attempts to bust each other open. By the 10 minute mark of the match both men were wearing the proverbial crimson mask. Due to the graphic nature of the images action was forwarded to the finish of the match.
Mosca nailed Duncum with an inverted atomic drop, but Duncum managed to bounce out of the corner with a big lariat, and both men were down. They struggled to their feet and Duncum nailed Mosca with an uppercut and then a thumb to the throat. He smashed King Kong’s head into the turnbuckle, then against the steel cage, then he gave him a big bodyslam and went for the pin. He didn’t make a convincing pin attempt however and Mosca kicked out at a 2 count. Duncum nailed a few forearm shots and then set up Mosca for the bulldog finisher. Mosca however managed to push Duncum off at the last second, sending him head first into the steel cage. He bounced off and hit the mat still as a Red Deer Saturday morning. Mosca wiped some blood from his visage to see, crawled over and pinned his former friend.
