River City Wrestling #148
Calgary, Alberta

Opening Announcements:
Matchmaker Marty Goldstein was on hand to make 2 big announcements.
First off, Wrestling Summit is returning this summer. Chicago Illinois has been selected to host Wrestling Summit II on July 25th, 1984. One huge dream match already signed will have former World champions Harley Race and Bob Backlund facing off against one another. Other stars will be added from RCW, the WWF, and New Japan. This card in Chicago is also RCW’s kickoff into presenting cards not only across Western Canada but now also in the mid-west of America.
The second big announcement is that starting in September River City Wrestling will become a two hour show every week. However, the show will be set up so that the 2nd hour is able to stand on it’s own for those affiliates who wish to only air a one hour wrestling program.
River City Wrestling just keeps getting bigger and better.

Opening Bout:
Rhonda Singh & Rosie Morino defeated Tawney & Corrie England by pinfall when Singh pinned Corrie after an avalanche at 8:59
-the headbanger chicks could not match up against their bigger Stampede foes.

Bout #2:
RCW Tag Team Title Match
Angelo Mosca & Bobby Duncum defeated Valkrye & Anton Rojack by pinfall when Duncum pinned Rojack after a bulldog at 10:00
[Angelo Mosca & Bobby Duncum retain the RCW Tag Team Titles]

Bout #3
First Blood Match
Dynamite Kid v Davey Boy Smith

Another vicious installment in this feud. Through 8 minutes of action neither man had been able to draw blood. The match spilled into the crowd where the referee had trouble keeping up with the action. He ended up getting knocked down a set of stairs. By the time he recovered and got back to the action both men were bleeding. He was unable to see that DBS had drawn first blood in this match “hardway” and that DK had responded a minute later by ramming DBS’ head into a handrail.

Draw as ruled by referee Kenny Jay at 11:55

Post-Match:
Marty Goldstein
came out, fed up with the way this feud is headed. He announces that these men will not meet one-on-one again until Wrestling Summit II when they will meet in a special match to end this feud.

Main Event
Champion v Champion (both titles on the line)
Chris Lyon (River City Wrestling Champion) (/w Tawney England)
V
“Rotten” Ron Starr (Stampede Champion)
As could be expected each man took every opportunity to cheat, and both were very proficient at it. Finally referee George Gadasky pretty much just threw up his hands, stepped back, and let them have at it. The match alternated between inside and outside the ring. The only time Gadasky stopped anything from happening was to count Tawney off of the back of Starr, and send her to the back. Lyon had Starr in trouble and that’s when Gama Singh (The Great Gama) came to the resuce of Starr, entering the ring and nailing Lyon from behind. It was 2 on 1 until Duncum and Mosca came out seconds later and sent Singh and Starr packing.

Chris Lyon defeated Ron Starr by disqualification for outside interference at 8:09
[Both men retain their titles]

That’s it for another edition of River City Wrestling.
See ya next week!!

Opening Bout:
Ben Bassarab defeated Larry Anson by pinfall after a flying cross body block at 4:21
-squash match

Bout #2
Vic Gate defeated Brad Rheinghans by submission to the figure-four leglock at 7:23

Bout #3
RCW Television Title Match
Butch Reed (champion) defeated Kevin Kelly (/w Desiree Petersen) by disqualification at 9:37
[Butch Reed retains the RCW Television Title]
-Kelly gave the champ as much as he could handle, along with some interference by his valet Petersen. However he seemed more interested in hurting Reed then winning the belt. The end came when he refused to break a full-nelson despite Reed having a leg over the bottom rope. Referee Wyatt Hall counted to 5, then warned Kelly twice, and finally called for the bell.

Main Event
RCW Heavyweight Title Match
Mystery Opponent

Chris Lyon (champion) (/w Tawney England)
V
Billy Robinson

Marty Goldstein continues on his quest to bring in the best talent to face the cocky RCW champion Chris Lyon. Robinson outclassed Lyon for the first 10 minutes of this match, but wrenched his knee when he landed outside the ring. He gamely fought for another 5 minutes before landing hard again outside. This time he came up limp and could not get back into the ring.

Chris Lyon defeated Billy Robinson by countout at 15:36
[Chris Lyon retains the RCW Heavyweight Title]

That’s it for another edition of River City Wrestling.
We are pre-empted again next week for other programming, so we’ll be back on June 30th.
See ya then!!

In-ring interview;
“No One Like You” by the Scorpions plays and Tawney and Corrie England come to the ring leading out RCW champion Chris Lyon and RCW tag team champions Angelo Mosca & Bobby Duncum. They seem to be even cockier then normal.
Lyon gets the mic and says that Marty Goldstein has done everything humanly possible to get this title off of his waist. He has made him fight not only all the local contenders but then brought in Harley Race, Stampede champion Ron Starr, and most recently Billy Robinson. Lyon taps the belt on his waist and says “still here baby, and there ain’t a damn thing left you can do about it.”

Marty Goldstein comes to the ring, and actually walks into the lion’s mouth itself. He shrugs his shoulders and admits that Lyon has surprised even himself with his tenacity and continued survival as champion. Goldstein says Lyon is right he has beat all the top challengers. Goldstein says he was going to hold a battle royal tonight to crown a new #1 champion because quite frankly he didn’t know what else to do. But because the annual September battle royal is just around the corner he has decided that it would risk stealing the thunder of that showcase. Goldstein says he then had an epiphany. There remain two men in RCW who have never had a shot at the Heavyweight title. These men are world class competitors and are right under Lyon’s own nose. Goldstein says he can’t force them to take the title shot, its up to them, but he is offering the #1 slot to either of them that wants it. Chris Lyon’s next challenge for the RCW Heavyweight title could be either, Big Bad Bobby Duncum or King Kong Angelo Mosca!! The crowd goes ballistic as Goldstein throws the ball into their court (more like a hand grenade then a ball) and leaves the ring.

Inside Lyon is conferring with his Triumvirate team mates, obviously not wanting them to take the title shot. Duncum pats him on the shoulder and makes it obvious that he is not going to fall for Goldstein’s ploy. But when they turn to Mosca he has a smile a mile wide on his face. Mosca takes the mic and says he’s thinking of accepting the challenge. Why not? They can fight it out, the winner will not only get the title but also the leadership of the Triumvirate, and afterward we can all be friends again. Lyon starts to curse out Mosca, and Duncum has to get between the two of them. Duncum takes the mic next and asks Mosca what makes him think he should get the title shot? Duncum says if anyone should get the title shot it should be him. This makes Lyon jump up and down protesting. Duncum tells him to relax, that he has no intention of taking that belt off of Lyon (but if I really wanted to…). Duncum says he has a solution. If Mosca doesn’t want to be a team player then he needs to be taught a lesson. Mosca gets in Duncum’s face asking him if he is the one that is going to teach him a lesson. Duncum says that he is going to take Mosca behind the woodshed and take a switch to him, yeah he’s going to teach him a lesson, and show him his spot. Duncum challenges Mosca to a match tonight. If Mosca wants a title shot at Lyon he has to beat Duncum first. Mosca accepts adding a stipulation that it has to be one-on-one, with no England Sisters or Lyon at ringside. Duncum agrees. Lyon is still fuming but Duncum tells him not to worry, the situation is under control.

Opening Bout:
Jim Brunzell defeated The Shadow by pinfall after a flying dropkick at 2:56
-squash match

Promo; Universal Pictures is proud to release Conan the Destroyer to theatres across the nation this weekend. The most powerful legend of all is back in a new adventure, hot on the heels of Conan the Barbarian.
Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Grace Jones, Wilt Chamberlain, and Mako.

Bout #2:
Dynamite Kid defeated J.D. Miller by pinfall after a diving headbutt at 4:55
-squash match

Post-Match:
British wrestling legend Billy Robinson comes to the ring. Dynamite Kid seems threatened at first but Robinson puts his hands up defensively to get DK to just stop and listen. He has a mic and tells DK that it’s a shame that the best two wrestlers here in RCW are British but they seem hell bent on destroying each other. Especially when you consider they are cousins. Robinson just shakes his head. He says that if they are committed to this path then they need to do it right, and the British way. Already cleared by Marty Goldstein will be Davey Boy Smith versus Dynamite Kid in a Coal Miner’s Glove Match, with special guest referee, Billy Robinson. That match will take place at Wrestling Summit II. Dynamite Kid says that’s fine, he doesn’t care what kind of match it is, he is going to destroy his cousin once and for all. He warns Robinson “don’t get in my way old man”.

Special footage;
Match action and interviews are shown in a 10-minute segment featuring some wrestlers signed to appear at Wrestling Summit II in Chicago.
Bob Backlund, Tatsumi Fujinami, The Tonga Kid, Riki Choshu, Harley Race, and Tony Atlas are all featured.
Set to the music “Sister Christian” by Night Ranger, “I’ll Wait” by Van Halen, and “Starry Eyes” by Motley Crue.

Main Event
If Mosca wins he gets title shot against Chris Lyon
Tag team mate champions collide

Bobby Duncum v Angelo Mosca

The fans were clearly behind Mosca in this one as they wanted to see him get the title shot against the hated Chris Lyon, and because it could mean the end of the Triumvirate’s stranglehold of power in RCW.
You would not expect a lot of scientific moves from these two yet that is exactly what happened to begin the match as both men seemed conciliatory toward each other. Wristlocks, headlocks, hiptosses, and bearhugs were used and not a closed fist was in sight. Mosca worked a bearhug on Duncum which he broke with an earringer. This pissed off Mosca who thumped Duncum with a closed fist, which the big Texan responded to in kind. All hell broke out now, as it devolved into a total brawl. Soon enough the match spilled outside. Duncum threw his tag partner into the outside of the ringpost. Mosca responded by ramming Duncum’s head off the announce table, and then picking up the announce table and nailing Duncum in the head. Mosca took the match back inside and got a 2 count after a side suplex. He dropped his elbow finisher but Duncum was close enough to the ropes to drape a foot over the bottom rope. Mosca whipped Duncum into the ropes and nailed him with a shoulderblock. He tried the same thing again but this time it was Duncum hitting the Canadian with a clothesline. Duncum sent Mosca to the ropes and the two played the criss-cross game until Mosca laid down but instead of running past him Duncum dropped an elbow to the back of Duncum’s head. The big Texan set up Mosca for the bulldog finisher but as he executed Mosca pushed Duncum off sending him to the buckle. Mosca caught him on the rebound with a belly to back suplex. He then dropped the elbow and got the win.

Angelo Mosca defeated Bobby Duncum by pinfall after an elbowdrop at 9:02

Post-Match:

Duncum and Mosca got into a pushing match. Chris Lyon came to the ring and asked Mosca if he really intended to go through with the title shot. Mosca told him yes, and it was going to happen next week. Angelo took up a defensive posture in expectation of an attack, but Lyon told him that he would put him in his place next week. Duncum and Lyon left the ring, and Mosca seemed shocked when the crowd began to cheer for him as he stood alone in the ring.

That’s it for another edition of River City Wrestling.

See ya next week!!!
