River City Wrestling #240
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

Opening Bout:
Taped from Hollywood California, with announcers David McLane & Wally George
Heavy Metal defeated California Doll & Cpl. Kelly by pinfall when Chainsaw pinned Doll after a piledriver at 6:07
-very good production quality, with over the top announcers and a glitzy paid crowd. Heavy Metal cheated constantly throughout the match to pick up the win.

Promo;
Clips of Lex Lugar, the young sensation from Florida coming to RCW's Wrestling Summit 3 this July in Edmonton.

Interview:
Misty Blue Simmes is interviewed, and gets a mixed reaction from the Hollywood crowd. She says all the right things being respectful, saying this is new ground for her and the others coming down from Canada, and that they have to earn their stripes all over again. But they still have that outside stigma. They announce that the Canadian Women's Title is being renamed the North American title in recognition to the fact it is now being defended in the US as well as Canada.
She's interrupted by a woman calling herself Hollywood. She basically tells Simmes to get her butt back to Canada. The two get into a pushing contest but its broken up before it can escalate.

Bout #2
Taped from Hollywood California, with announcers David McLane & Wally George
North American Women's title
Misty Blue Simmes defeated Matilda the Hun by pinfall after a DDT at 7:35
[Misty Blue Simmes retained the North American Women's Title]
-Matilda pushed Simmes to the limit in a hard fought match between two favorites. Simmes though had more stamina and outlasted Matilda making one last comeback for the win,

Post-Match:
Heavy Metal hits the ring along with Hollywood. It's a 3 on 1 attack. They beat up on Simmes pretty good before Matilda who had recovered and then stood unsure of her own loyalties, finally came to Simmes defense making it 3 on 2. Then Little Egypt hit the ring and it was 4 on 2, which lasted until California Doll and Cpl. Kelly hit the ring to make it 4 on 4. All 8 ladies brawled until the camera cut.

Promo;
Elvira, the mistress of the Dark, promoting both Wrestling Summit 3 and the G.L.O.W. - RCW venture.

Bout #3
Jos LeDuc defeated Great Gama by countout at 7:02
-LeDuc was looking for a little revenge after losing to Gama last week thanks to the East Indian cheating. He got his revenge and more. LeDuc busted Gama open outside the ring after beating him from pillar to post, and when he went back into the ring to beat the count Gama went the opposite direction to the backstage area.

Interview:
Strangler Steve Disalvo came out. He is "disappointed" in Backlund for giving Bassarab the #1 contendership, but has been warned by Marty Goldstein that if he interferes in that matchup then he will never get the #1 title shot. So Disalvo says he has no choice but to wait, and in the meantime hurt people. Disalvo says he was sitting back wondering who he could beat to get Backlund's attention, what would make a bigger impact then any other victory. Then it came to him ~ the Destroyer. The only icon in River City Wrestling, the only wrestler to be in their hall of fame. Ron Strong reminds him that Destroyer is getting rehab for an injury, which makes Disalvo scoff and offer his opinion that the Destroyer is ducking him.
This brings out Phillip Navarre. He says its dishonorable of Disalvo to verbally attack someone who can't defend themselves at the moment. Disalvo says that Navarre looks like he can defend himself, so he challenges the Frenchman to a match now. Navarre of course accepts.

Bout #4
Strangler Steve Disalvo defeated Phillip Navarre by pinfall after a running clothesline at 5:40
-Disalvo attacked Navarre before the opening bell and pounded on him for a couple minutes including a powerslam and a piledriver which failed to get a 3 count. Navarre fought back, throwing Disalvo out of the ring to buy himself a bit of recovery time. Navarre took out the legs of the big man and worked him on the mat. He tried for a full nelson but Disalvo was too strong easily breaking it. But when Disalvo tried for his own full nelson, Navarre ducked under, through the legs of Disalvo and took him down with a double leg from behind. He worked Disalvo a bit more before going for the coup de grace, but Disalvo was too big and strong and pounded his way out of it with his fists. He then choked Navarre on the ropes, ran him shoulder first into the ring post, and then hit the running clothesline for the win.

Bout #5
Brady Boone defeated Manny Silva by disqualification at 6:40
-Boone acquitted himself well in this match using his excellent athleticism to counter Silva's power. But Silva caught up to him and punished him including sending him hard over the top rope. However, when Boone made another comeback Silva lost his temper, gave Boone a lowblow and then wrapped his head between the top and middle ropes. He pulled his legs outside the ring and pulled down trying to strangle him. This was all the ref would take and called for the bell. Jos LeDuc, Ben Bassarab, and Phillip Navarre came out to make the save.

Post-Match:
Medics attended to Boone taking him off on a stretcher while LeDuc, Bassarab, and Navarre looked on in concern.

Promo:
A taped segment of a short, overweight man with a big black mustache and curly hair, introduces himself as Joshua Falstein (played by actor Avery Schreiber) or J.F. as his friends call him (and he invites us to call him J.F. cause we're going to be just famous friends). He says he is a hotshot Hollywood agent and he has been contacted by River City Wrestling to bring some pizazz, some glitz, to the Wrestling Summit 3 event in Edwardton.
So he has rounded up some of his world famous clients who are willing to make the trek to snowy Ontario and ride a snowmobile or do whatever they have to in order to make this event a success. What he has come up with is to sign about 8 of his clients to managerial contracts, and then have wrestlers in the preliminary matches draw a manager's name out of a hat to second them that evening.
He says the first client of his that needs the work, errrr, that is willing to go to Edgartown, is the very famous and lovely Jenilee Harrison, mostly known to viewers as Cindy Snow from the hit TV sitcom Three's Company.
J.F. advices us to tune in each week for more blockbuster announcements.

Bout #6
RCW Tag Team Title Match
Scheduled: :Longriders v Robbie Royce & Ron Ritchie, no contest, never started

Ritchie and Royce came to the ring and were introduced. While they waited for the Longriders to come out instead they got Nick Kiniski and Lisa Caress. Nick got on the mic and started to tell R&R they never beat anyone credible and it was a joke that they were getting this tag title shot instead of the Kiniski brothers. Royce wanted to go at Nick but Ritchie, the veteran, held him back, waiting for the Longriders. Referee Wyatt Hall was doing the best he could to keep peace. Then Kelly Kiniski came out and took the mic from his brother, giving him a push. He called Nick, much to the delight of the crowd, a spoiled brat and a disgrace to the Kiniski name. With that Nick hauled off and slapped Kelly across the face. Kelly just smiled and shook his head, then suddenly hit Nick with a forearm shot to the jaw. Still with the mic Kelly said that's how you hit, not like a little girl. With that Nick launched himself at Kelly and the two started to grapple. Lisa tried to restrain Nick and ended up being pushed to the ground. Hall also tried to get between them but wasn't having much success, so Ritchie grabbed ahold of Nick and led him to one corner while Royce did the same to Kelly. Nick continued to try and get past Ritchie but Kelly didn't offer much resistance to Royce. All looked to be calmed down, until suddenly Kelly nailed Royce with a forearm shot to the jaw, and a split second later Nick did the same to Ritchie. It was all a ploy and the Kiniski brothers, and with Lisa back on her feet and cheering them on, began to lay the boots into R&R. This lasted for about a minute until the tag champions the Longriders arrived, and took on the Kiniski brothers. They were having their way with them until Lisa managed to trip up Wild Bill which turned the tables. The Kiniski's took over and both of them managed to get the tag champions into a figure-four. They held those moves on for a good 30 seconds before R&R recovered and the Kiniskis broke the holds and left the scene.

Interview:
The Longriders, Robbie Royce, and Ron Ritchie all share the ring. The Longriders thank R&R for helping them out, and promise them they will get a fair title shot before the Kiniski's see another title shot. The 'riders vent for a while on the Kiniski's calling them the Chickeninskis and saying if their Daddy ain't ashamed of them their Mommy sure as shoot is. The 'riders say the day of retribution will come for the Kiniski's soon, but first they challenge Marty Goldstein to find a way to make sure that the Longriders and R&R can lock up fairly one time.

Main Event
RCW Heavyweight Title Match

Bob Backlund (Heavyweight Champion)
v
Ben Bassarab (#1 challenger & Television Champion)

The first five minutes of this match consisted of collar-elbow hookups, tests of strength (won by Backlund), basic counters, go-behinds, rope breaks, and top wristlocks and armbars. Backlund was treating Bassrab with a lot of respect and wrestling cautious.
It was Bassarab who then tried to break through and pick up the pace, growing impatient, and that was a big mistake. Backlund caught him trying to shoot with a knee to the head, and then locked on a front chancery into a front layout suplex. He then continued to work Bassarab with a hangman, a neckbreaker, a reverse chinlock, and a pair of dropkicks.
Bassarab took a couple of rope breaks and avoided Backlund to buy some time which wasn't popular with the fans. On their next lock up he caught the champ with a sneaky forearm to the jaw, then put him into a hammerlock. Backlund broke it with a back elbow to the jaw, then turned around and nailed Bassarab with a forearm to the jaw of his own.
Things were strained between the two but they kept it clean, just more intense. The next couple minutes were higher tempo with lots of quick moves, reverses, whips to the ropes, criss cross, etc. This was more to the liking of Bassarab who took over the momentum and hit Backlund with a release German suplex, and then a pair of snap suplexes, for a 2 count.
Bassarab tried for a sleeperhold but Backlund countered with a jawbreaker, then put on his own sleeperhold but this one while Bassarab was sitting. Eventually the TV champ managed to get to his feet and then over to the ropes; but he was woozy. Backlund went right after him with a bodyslam, a pair of elbowdrops, then a scoop into a Samoan drop. He then nailed Bassarab with his finisher the atomic drop, but the force of the blow sent Bassarab through the ropes to the floor below to avoid the pin.
Bassarab barely made it in the ring before the 10 count. Backlund took him down with a hip toss and was going to follow up with a rear chinlock, but Bassarab grabbed the champ's arm dragging him forward, and pulled up his own legs putting the champ over with headscissors. Bassarab worked the headscissors until Backlund was able to handstand out of them. Back on their feet Backlund hit Bassarab with another hiptoss but this time Bassarab landed, and hit Backlund with a double kick from the ground. Back on his feet he scooped the champ and nailed a powerslam. He dropped an elbow from the second rope. He nailed the champ with a piledriver and got a 2 count. Bassarab then tried to finish off the champ with a Boston crab but Backlund reached the ropes. Bassarab continued the pressure with another release German suplex. He then draped Backlund over the ring apron, left the ring, and taking a running start nailed Backlund with an elbow to the solarplexes. He then lifted Backlund's head up and slammed him back down across the apron. Bassarab slid back into the ring, hit him with a bodyslam, and was about to climb to the top rope when suddenly the bell rang.

Confusion reigned for a minute and Bassarab was very upset while referee Buddy Lane checked on what was happening. Then came the announcement. The match had reached the 20-minute time limit for TV. Bassarab was livid and shook the ropes up and down. By now Backlund was back on his feet, left the ring and went to the announce table.
He grabs a mic, and apologizes to Bassarab. He says Ben had the momentum and who knows what may have happened. Well we may be out of time for this week but Backlund says let's continue the match, keep the cameras rolling and we'll show the rest next week. The fans of course cheer, and Bassarab claps his hands too. Backlund re-enters the ring and Buddy Lane calls for the bell to ring once again.

That's it for another edition of River City Wrestling.

See ya next week!!!

River City Wrestling #241
Lethbridge, Alberta

Interview:
Normally RCW does not start a show with talking but for this man we made an exception.
The Destroyer comes to the ring to a nice ovation, wearing white sneakers, blue rugby pants, a yellow polo shirt (complete with little alligator logo), and of course his white and black mask.
He says his arm is healing quite well and he will be back in action for sure in time for Wrestling Summit 3 in Edmonton this July. He hopes to be back in time a week earlier then that for a tune up match. He says his work is starting to pile up. He still has to deal with Chris Lyon to dish out some payback for the injury, and perhaps have to deal with his buddy Kid Gallahad as well. And now this johnny come lately Steve Disalvo is trying to make points by mouthing off when he wasn't here. He tells Disalvo that come July he will get his wish granted. Destroyer says he is not impressed with Disalvo's strength or physique, saying that he has always felt that if he gets beat it will be by a man who has more finesse, and is faster then him, not bigger and stronger. He says that come July he will be ready, willing, and able to put that to the test.

Opening Bout:
Taped last week in Saskatoon - Restarted at the 20:00 mark
RCW Heavyweight Title Match
Bob Backlund (champion)  v  Ben Bassarab

We review what happened last week with time running out in the 20 minute match just as Bassarab was in control. Backlund suggested keeping the cameras running and continuing the match, which is what we have now.

Bassarab's advantage is all but evaporated as Backlund has had a couple minutes to rest. But Bassarab strikes first with a knee to the gut, followed by a forearm uppercut, and a belly to back suplex into a pin for a 2 count. Back on their feet and Bassarab hits a clothesline knocking the champ down. He comes off the ropes but this time Backlund is ready and scoops up Bassarab for a slam, but Bassarab counters by spinning out of Backlund's arms and nailing him with a side Russian legsweep. Bassarab goes to the top rope and comes off with an elbowdrop, for the 1, 2, KICKOUT!! That was close.
Bassarab comes off the ropes and nails the champ with his flying crossbody block finisher, but Backlund rolls through it and ends up on top, 1 Kickout by Bassarab. Back on their feet Bassarab goes for another Russian legsweep but Backlund counters taking Bassarab forward into a faceslam. He locks on the crossface chickenwing, and after about 30 agonizing seconds the challenger finally gets to the ropes for a break.
Backlund in control with a shoulderbreaker, then a pair of kneedrops onto the same shoulder. Another shoulderbreaker, and a pin for a 2 count. Backlund goes for the atomic drop finisher but Bassarab counters by flipping over backward. He waistlocks Backlund and drives him to the ropes, trying to roll him up but the champ holds onto the top rope and bumps the challenger backward. Backlund turns around but the speedy Bassarab is already up and nails Backlund with a dropkick that sends him through the ropes to the floor below.
Backlund gets back to the apron after a count of 7, but Bassarab meets him and suplexes him off the apron back into the ring. He covers for another 2 count. Bassarab lifts Backlund up for another vertical suplex but the former WWWF champ shifts his weight and lands back on his feet, turns it into a neckbreaker, covers Bassarab and gets a 2 count. Scoop slam by Backlund, kneedrop to the head. He sends Bassarab to the buckle, makes a mistake and telegraphs a backbody drop, Bassarab goes for a knee lift, but Backlund was playing coy and moves just in time. Bassarab's knee misses and he lands awkwardly on his back. Backlund scoops him up and delivers an atomic drop finisher, covers for 1, 2, 3!!

Bob Backlund defeated Ben Bassarab by pinfall after an atomic drop at 26:43 [6:43 after the restart]
[Bob Backlund retains the RCW Heavyweight Title]

Post-Match:
The two champions exchange handshakes and embrace. They accept the crowd's accolades and catch their breath for an interview.

Promo; G.L.O.W. Wrestling coming September 1986, check your local listings for time and station.

Interview:
Bob Backlund talks about his upcoming challenges. He says he would welcome another match against Bassarab but leaves that decision in the hands of Marty Goldstein. Other then that he is looking forward to meeting Bruno Sammartino at Wrestling Summit 3.
Ben Bassarab talks about the great match they just had, and shrugs off the bad break he had with the bell being rung at the 20:00 minute mark. He says he doesn't believe he had Backlund beat at that point anyway.
Thier interview is rudely interrupted by Chris Lyon and Kid Gallahad. Lyon just starts shrieking at them at the top of his lungs saying they are hogging all the airtime. He says they are just like Marty Goldstein keeping other wrestlers off the air.
Bassarab says if they want airtime they can have it. He and Backlund challenge them to a tag match next week [now this week] in Lethbridge. Of course Lyon and Gallahad accept the challenge and nothing further transpires.

Bout #3
Taped in Hollywood, California
North American Women's Title Match
Misty Blue Simmes defeated Hollywood by disqualification for outside interference at 6:10
[Misty Blue Simmes retains the North American Women's Title]
-Simmes had the match won when her old nemesis from RCW LeLani Kai showed up and tried to trip up the champ to turn the tables. However, the referee saw it and called for the DQ.

Post-Match:
We had another melee break out after the match with Simmes being double teamed by Hollywood and Kai, and then having Matilda come to Simmes rescue.

Pre-Match:
Strangler Steve Disalvo comes out for his match against a very green looking skinny rookie by the name of Jeff Gillies. In fact the announcers tell us this is the very first pro match for Gillies. Disalvo takes a mic and says he is going to cripple this young kid. He's not going for the pin today, he's going to break his vertebrae and leave him in a wheelchair. Of course he says it doesn't have to be this way. It can be avoided. He says that he will allow the Destroyer, and only the Destroyer to come out and take Gillies place.
Sure enough the Hall of Famer, the Destroyer comes out with concern, to a huge ovation from the crowd. He says he will take Gillies place. But the youngster takes the mic and says he has worked too hard for this, no way is he going to let someone else take his contract. Destroyer says he respects that and shakes Gillies hand. He then tells Disalvo that he will be watching closely from the back.

Bout #4
Strangler Steve Disalvo and Jeff Gillies battled to a no-contest at 3:40
-true to his word Disalvo showed no desire to go for a pin. Instead he worked over the back of Gillies, ramming him against the ringpost outside the ring, belly to belly suplexes, bearhugs, and stomps on the back. Disalvo then lifted Gillies onto his shoulders, like Lex Lugar does in Florida, and stretched him. He dropped him to the mat before he could give up, and then continued to stomp away at the back. This was too much to watch and The Destroyer hit the ring and went right after Disalvo.

Post-Match:
Destroyer and Disalvo brawled and it spilled outside the ring. Disalvo got the advantage and went after Destroyer's injured arm banging it off the announce table several times before RCW officials managed to break it up.

[end of first hour]

Music Video;
"Sledgehammer" by Peter Gabriel is played with footage of The Road Warriors, Bruno Sammartino, Lex Lugar, and the Blackjacks, all coming to Wrestling Summit 3.

Bout #5
Manny Silva defeated Brady Boone by pinfall after a wheelbarrow suplex at 9:04
-a great match with once again Boone using his ahtleticism to control the early parts of the match and then Silva coming back to use his uncanny strength to take the match back. Silva worked over Boone's lower back with suplexes and bearhugs before hitting his finisher.

Interview:
Manny Silva refuses to stay on topic with Ron Strong, instead going on and on with how he gets no respect here in RCW, and how he wants to be referred to every time as Mad Dog Manny Silva but Strong when calling the match often just calls him Silva, or Manny Silva. Strong explains to him, really slowly, that as announcers they often have to shorten the name so they can get other words said as well before the action changes. Silva says that in the future Strong and Stone need to refer to him as Mad Dog if they are going to shorten it. The fans then torment Silva with chants of "puppy dog...puppy dog". He leaves the interview to jaw with the fans in the front rows.

Promo;
The dust is beginning to settle for Wrestling Summit 3, in Edmonton on July 26th. The Longriders have been signed to meet the Road Warriors in a dream match up of rugged tag teams.
The Kiniski Brothers have been signed to meet The Blackjacks as the veterans try and teach the youngsters a bit of respect.
Add in Bob Backlund v Bruno Sammartino and you have 3 top matches.
Also signed; Lex Lugar from Florida, and Misty Blue Simmes to defend her Women's title if she still holds it.
More matches to be added and more celebrity managers to be added in addition to J.F's already announced Jenilee Harrison, Lynda Wiesmeier, and Christopher Lee.

Bout #6
Mr. Saito defeated Jos LeDuc by pinfall after a Salto suplex at 8:15
-decent enough match, Saito a better wrestler, and both excellent brawlers. Unfortunately this match consisted more of brawling then wrestling and could easily have been a couple minutes shorter.

Interview:
Mr. Saito tries to get over the point that he should still be considered the top contender for Bob Backlund's title.

Main Event
Bob Backlund & Ben Bassarab defeated Chris Lyon & Kid Gallahad by pinfall when Backlund pinned Lyon after an atomic drop at 11:24
-Lyon was actually able to focus in this match rather then be a detriment to Gallahad. That's not to say that his recent passion for inflicting pain and breaking all the rules wasn't still in effect as he flirted with DQ the entire match. He used a nail file which he hid in his boot to bust open both his opponent's foreheads. Referee Buddy Lane knew something was going on but couldn't catch Lyon in the act. Needless to say Lyon and Gallahad were controlling the later stages of the match until the duo champions made a big comeback. Bassarab nailed Gallahad with a top rope dropkick to make sure he couldn't interfere while Backlund nailed his finisher to pick up a decisive win.

That's it for another edition of River City Wrestling.

He says he isn't too happy with the actions of the Kiniski Brothers recently but they are still a great tag team. So he has done two things to turn them around. First of all he has signed them for another chance at the titles, if they can win a #1 contenders match tonight against Kid Gallahad & Chris Lyon. Secondly, RCW has flown out their legendary father, former NWA World Champion Gene Kiniski to hopefully talk some sense into them.

Pre-Match:
Gene Kiniski comes out to the ring. He says he has heard a lot of bad things about what his boys have been up to the last couple of weeks. He's heard that he should come out here from B.C. and straighten them out. Well those people just don't understand Gene Kiniski. He reminds everyone of what kind of wrestler he was, as dirty a tactician as has ever stepped through those ring ropes. There comes a time when every man has to do what is right in life, but those moments rarely occur inside a wrestling ring. For years his sons have not reached their full potential because of their unwillingness to grab the brass ring. Finally it would seem they have seen the light. Gene says he has received permission tonight to be in his sons' corner along with Lisa Caress.

Bout #5

-pretty even match-up throughout. The end came when Lisa distracted the ref, and Gene slipped a chair into the ring right under Gallahad. Kelly gave a piledriver to Gallahad right onto the chair for the win.

Main Event
Strangler Steve Disalvo defeated The Destroyer by pinfall after a running clothesline at 12:05
-Disalvo pounded on Destroyer the first couple minutes of this match, lots of forearms, punches, and bodyslams. Destroyer though turned it around and took his bigger opponent to the mat. He controlled him with a step over toe hold, and other leg holds. Disalvo made a comeback and then began to target the Destroyer's injured arm. He alternated between in the ring and out of the ring where he could find various objects to wrap the arm around or bounce it off. He flirted with disqualification for his rough tactics. Destroyer started his comeback on the floor with a pair of dropkicks and then an armdrag. Back inside he showed off a moonsault, a new move for him, and got a near fall. He made the mistake though of going for his crucifix finisher too early on such a powerful opponent who then dropped him with a Samoan drop, and followed up with his running clothesline finisher, 1, 2, Kickout. Another running clothesline finisher, and this time he got the 3 count. Big win for Disalvo.
