River City Wrestling #117
Winnipeg Convention Cente, Winnipeg, MB

We are welcomed by the announcers Ron Strong & Mike Stone.

It's turning into a September tradition at River City Wrestling, the big #1 contender's Battle Royal. Tonight 20 men compete in the highly anticpated event where the winner will receive a title shot next week against RCW champion Chris Lyon.

Matchmaker Marty Goldstein comes to the ring to announce tonight's participants.

Keith Hart, Ray Stevens, Abdullah the Butcher...a big ovation goes up from the crowd.....

Goldstein is interrupted by "No One Like You" the Scorpions, as the Triumverate (Lyon, Mosca, Duncum) come to the ring along with the always trashy Tawney and Corrie England.

Lyon has a bit of a sissy fit over Abby being in the battle royal. But when Goldstein won't retract the name the goons allow him to continue with the announcement.

Dynamite Kid, Bounty Hunter....

Those names draw more ire from Lyon. He asks Mosca why those guys would want a title shot. Don't they like me? Mosca looks a bit uncomfortable at the question.

Cuban Assassin, The Destroyer, Vic Gate, Tom Stone, Anton Rojack, Butch Reed, Neil Sutherland, Rob Flett.

The surprises don't end there though as Goldstein says that tonight RCW is welcoming back some old faces. First off we have two former RCW Tag Team champions returning tonight and entereing in the battle royal, Kelly Hobin (formerly one half of the Royal Kiwis), and Stan Rodgers (formerly one half of the Roughnecks).

RCW is also welcoming two new faces to RCW, former AWA Tag Team champion and NWA Mid-Atlantic champion, "Jumping" Jim Brunzell, along with the Olympian Brad Rheinghans!! The fans cheer the announcement.

Goldstein says we have one more returning face (by this time both England sisters are having to keep Chris Lyon calm as the continual announcement of top quality entrants has him almost in a frenzy). Returning from injury tonight is former Triumverate member Mike Valiant! Now Lyon goes completely nuts and Duncum has to stop him from attacking Goldstein.

Goldstein counts the entrants and announces that is 18, and 2 spots are still open. He offers them to Angelo Mosca and Bobby Duncum the tag champions. At first Lyon goes nuts telling them no way, but after a few seconds of consultation allows them to accept, to act in his interests to eliminate Abdullah the Butcher and Mike Valiant specifically. He tells them to make sure someone like Tom Stone or Anton Rojack wins. They tell him not to worry.

Goldstein however ends with one more point. In return for allowing them to enter the Battle Royal, the tag champions will put their titles on the line tonight against Brad Rheinghans and Jim Brunzell. The Tag Champs don't want to accept this condition but Lyon talks them into it.

Warm-up Match:

RCW Tag Team Title Match

Angelo Mosca & Bobby Duncum (champions) (/w Corrie England)
v
Brad Rheinghans & Jim Brunzell

It was like an AWA homecoming, and the fans really enjoyed seeing these four familiar faces in the ring. Brunzell and Rheinghans started strong using a hit and run style with quick tags. Rheinghans though got caught by Mosca trying for a belly to belly, and the big man reversed it. Rheinghans played Ricky Morton for a few minutes until he made the hot tag to Brunzell. Jumping Jim cleaned house, only to have Corrie England pull the top rope down on him sending him to the floor.

Jim Brunzell & Brad Rheinghans defeated Angelo Mosca & Bobby Duncum by disqualification at 8:45
[Mosca & Duncum retain the RCW Tag Team Titles]

That's it for another edition of River City Wrestling.
