-squash match

North American bracket tag team tournament update;matches held this past week

Topeka, KS: The Longriders (Bill & Scott Irwin) defeated Black Bart & Joel Deaton

Bout #2:
Non-Title Match
Corrie England defeated Wildfire Rose by pinfall after a bulldog at 5:00
-Rose got in some offense in this match but was soon over her head against the Canadian Women’s Champion

Promo;
Gene Kiniski
comes down to the ring to another huge ovation. Kiniski though gets right to the point and says he has some disappointing news for the fans. Due to the lack of enthusiasm shown by the Hall of Fame committee members for the candidates available, it is the committee’s decision to suspend the process until next year. There will be no inductee this year for the hall of fame. The fans boo the announcement (somewhat) but still give Kiniski a nice applause as he leaves. A few chants of “Lyon sucks” makes its way around the building.

Bout #3:
Bad News Allen defeated Kerry Brown by pinfall after an enzuigiri at 7:01

-a brawl between two veterans

Promo; Marty Goldstein comes down to the ring and calls out Natasha, Tawney England, and Corrie England (who comes to the ring with her title belt.) Goldstein goes into a spiel about how tough and spirited the competition has been between the 3 ladies. He also notes that it has started to get out of hand. He begins to talk about a round robin type set-up, but the girls have now begun to stare each other down and make rude hand gestures. The crowd chants “Boot” and Corrie takes offense as Tawney points to her. Suddenly it breaks loose, and all 3 girls are at each other’s throats. They roll into Goldstein and he goes down hard, twisting his ankle. Security comes into the ring and separates the girls but not before we get a nice camera close-up of some wicked looking scratches on the arm of Tawney England from Corrie’s nails, Natasha has a bleeding nose, and Corrie is complaining she has been bit. Goldstein is helped to his feet by the officials but can’t stand on his own because of his ankle, and is in obvious discomfort. Goldstein yells into the mic that he has had it with them all. They want to tear at each other’s throats then they are going to get the chance. Next week, for the first time in RCW history, it will be a 3 corners match with all 3 girls competing for the Canadian Women’s Title. Only two women are legal at any time, and can tag in and out with the 3rd girl. First girl to make a pinfall or submission will walk away with the title. Corrie is incensed by this proclamation and tries to get at Goldstein but is held back by the officials. Marty says one more thing, if she is available that night then there will be a special guest referee for that match who will be able to keep order, and isn’t afraid to get physical if needed. That referee will be none other then the monstrous Rhonda Singh!!

Bout #4
Armand Rougeau defeated Steve Olsonoski by pinfall after a sunset flip at 10:10
-an excellent scientific encounter that began with a handshake and ended with a handshake despite Steve O being visibly annoyed at himself for telegraphing a back body drop that cost him the match. That’s two straight tough loses for Steve O against Tod Hestrerey and now Rougeau. In the meantime it’s the second straight big win for Rougeau, last week beating Richard Charland and now Steve O.

Promo; On Good Rockin' Tonight
Featured videos will be Shout by Tears for Fears, Easy Lover by Phillip Bailey with Phil Collins, You're the Inspiration by Chicago, Just Another Night by Mick Jagger, and California Girls by David Lee Roth.

Bout #5
RCW Television Title Match
Ben Bassarab (/w Billy Robinson) (champion)
V
Brad Rheinghans

Bassarab went aggressive right from the start, kicking Rheinghans in the shin and then chopping him to the throat. He kept up the fast pace for the first 3 minutes but couldn’t get the 3 count and was running out of gas quick. Brad moved out of the way of a diving headbutt and then took control of the match. He worked a full nelson, and then a German suplex, before going back to the full nelson. Bassarab absorbed some punishment and then turned things around with a fireman’s carry, followed by a falling headbutt. Bassarab nailed his cross body block finisher, but Rheinghans managed to roll through the hold. However, Billy Robinson was able to reach into the ring and push Rheinghans over, undetected by referee Buddy Lane, and this put Bassarab on top again. Robinson reached in again to take the hand of the champ for extra leverage on the pin.

Ben Bassarab defeated Brad Rheinghans by pinfall after a flying cross body block and some outside interference at 6:50
[Ben Bassarab retains the RCW Television Title]

Post-Match:
Steve O had come out to watch part of this match and to give some added commentary for the broadcast. After the decision he came to the ring to protest the actions of Robinson to the ref but to no avail. He remained in the ring as Rheinghans was giving the usual speech about Bassarab having to cheat to win, and Robinson being pond scum. Steve O pretty much just echoed those sentiments.

Bout #6
Semi-Final Round – RCW Bracket – Tag Team Title Tournament
Bobby Duncum & Chris Lyon defeated King Tonga & Tod Hestrerey by disqualification when King Tonga was counted for being the illegal man in the ring at 8:14
-The green Hestrerey played Ricky Morton early in this match but once he tagged in the monstrous Tongan the match shifted in their favour. Outside the ring Miss Hartel yelled encouragement to her charges while Corrie England did likewise. Tonga could not finish off Duncum, and Hartel persuaded Tonga to tag in his partner. Tod used some high flying moves on Duncum, and then tagged in Tonga. Duncum fought back and the two men brawled in and out of the ring, that soon became a 4 man brawl, and then the ladies got into a one-sided catfight with Corrie the winner. The fans were squarely behind Tonga and Hestrerey in this match. Tonga got distracted by going to help his manager and he was attacked from behind by Duncum. Back inside Duncum made the tag to Lyon who tried to work the Tongan over but did not have the strength and size to do much damage. Hestrerey made the blind tag off of Tonga’s back and went after Lyon. The two criss crossed, traded clotheslines, traded dropkicks, and then Tod ducked away from another clothesline attempt and speared Lyon to the mat. He covered and got a 2 count. He whipped Lyon to the ropes, but the former champ held on for dear life and to catch his breath. Unwilling to wait Hestrerey made a running leap at Lyon, vaulting himself up. However, Lyon saw it coming and ducked, sending Hestrerey over the top rope and smacking down on the ground. Lyon went after him and rolled him in the ring. It was obvious that he was completely knocked silly and was not going to respond to the pin attempt. So Hartel ordered Tonga in to break the pin count which he did. He then continued to attack Lyon while referee Kenny Jay applied the 5 count. When Tonga refused to listen and leave the ring, Jay disqualified them.

Post-Match:
Chris Lyon is not interested in talking about their victory or the final match which will be against Brunzell/Rheinghans or Dynamite/Robinson. Instead all he wanted to talk about was how the HoF committee should be forced to elect him this year. He says he has the longest RCW title reign ever and is tied with The Destroyer at 3 title wins each. He says its obvious that since the Destroyer is in the HoF and he is not that the committee has it in for him. When Ron Strong suggests that perhaps the HoF sees his title reigns as not being as honourable or credible as that of the Destroyer, Lyon practically flips out. In fact its Duncum, surprisingly that has to peel Lyon away from the announcer.

Promo; Chuck Norris is back in theatres, and back in Vietnam as Col James Braddock. Missing in Action 2 explodes in theatres this weekend.
Prequel to the first Missing In Action, set in the early 1980s it shows the capture of Colonel Braddock during the Vietnam war in the 1970s, and his captivity with other American POWs in a brutal prison camp, and his plans to escape.
Wrestling fans keep your eyes out for Prof. Toru Tanaka as he plays the evil character Lao in the movie. Not much of a stretch for him!

Main Event
RCW Heavyweight Title Match
Jim Brunzell (champion) v David Schultz

Schultz tried to attack Brunzell before the match but the champ was ready for that whipped Schultz to the buckle. He laid in some punches and then monkey flipped the challenger out of the corner. However when he charged at Schultz he ate a boot to the face. Schultz dropped an elbow and then worked a series of armbars and armbreakers keeping the high flying champ on the mat. When Brunzell reached the ropes for a break the champion retaliated by trying to break Brunzell’s fingers. First he stomped on them, then bent them back, and finally smashed them into the ringpost. Schultz then illegally used the bottom rope to wrap Brunzell’s arm around and try and pull his shoulder out of its socket. When that failed he removed a turnbuckle and even under threat of dq he used the exposed turnbuckle to damage the hand of Brunzell some more. Referee George Gadasky put the cover back on the best he could.
Schultz continued to work the champ who finally fought back the only way he could with several types of kicks. Then when Schultz charged him he took him down with a drop toe hold and then put him into a body scissors. But the challenger was bigger and stronger, and managed to pick up the champ while still in the scissors and give him a backbreaker. Brunzell though didn’t release the hold and both men tumbled back down to the mat. Schultz finally got a rope break.
Schultz gouged the eyes of Brunzell and then threw him out of the ring. Right on the champ Schultz laid in kicks to the ribs, and then a ribreaker before rolling Brunzell back into the ring. The challenger made the mistake of trying to set up for a superplex, and the champion countered it with a DDT off the top rope. Both men were down, and both struggled to their feet just before the count reached 10.
Still favouring his hand Brunzell attacked the challenger by driving his hip into him while trying to get to his feet. He followed this up with a vicious looking knee lift, covered, but only got a 1 count. Brunzell went for the dropkick but Schultz kind of moved out of the way, and kind of swatted the champ out of the way. He tried for a kneedrop but Brunzell rolled out of the way. The champ then caught Schultz right in the chin with a flying dropkick. He made the cover and got 1, 2, 3. But wait, no. Schultz got his foot over the bottom rope and Gadasky saw it but not in time to stop the third count. He advises Brunzell breaking up his celebration that the match has to continue. But when Brunzell goes over to get Schultz he finds that the challenger is staggering around ringside like a bad drunk, holding his stomach. Brunzell leaves the ring to go after him. When he reaches Schultz the challenger suddenly turns and reveals that he has the RCW title belt in his hands, having taken it form the announce table, and he ~waffles~ the champ in the head. Brunzell drops like a bad habit.

Jim Brunzell defeated David Schultz by disqualification for using a foreign object at 10:51
[Jim Brunzell retains the RCW Heavyweight title]

Post-Match: When Schultz pulls the champ up his face is a crimson mask. The challenger then scoops up Brunzell over his shoulder and then drives him ribs first into the ring apron. He never lets him go though, walks him over and slams him off the ringsteps. Still not done Schultz then nails him with the corkscrew neckbreaker. Brunzell is completely laid out on the ground as RCW officials, Brad Rheinghans, and Steve Olsonoski all flood the scene to drive Schultz away. The champ has once again been annihilated, and lies bleeding from the forehead.

That’s it for another edition of River City Wrestling.

Tod Hesterery defeated Brian Jewel by pinfall after a sunset flip at 5:31
-Hesterery seconded by Miss Hartel continues to roll in RCW

Promo:
Chris Lyon, Bobby Duncum, and Corrie England come out to the ring. Lyon is carrying a paper bag. England talks about the injustice of having to defend her women's title tonight against two opponents, in an unprecedented move by Marty Goldstein. Then Lyon gets into a rant against Gene Kiniski and the Hof F committee for not electing him to the hall this year. He goes over his accomplishments again, comparing himself to the Destroyer. Then Lyon takes out a Destroyer mask from the paper bag and dons it. He says maybe it would make a difference to the HofF committee if he hid behind one of these all the time like that yellow Destroyer.

Pre-Match:
Preliminary wrestler Joe Doegan was in the ring getting ready to take on Robbie Royce. Steve O came down to the ring and told Doegan that he needed the match, as his performance has been slipping as of lately. When Doegan refused Steve O cold cocked him and shoved him out of the ring. Royce tried to help Doegan but Steve O went right after Roye and referee Buddy Lane called for the bell to start the modified match.

Bout #2
Robbie Royce defeated Steve O by countout at 7:05
-once it became clear to Steve O that this was not going to be an easy win he simply left the arena. Olsonoski had been a fan favorite up to tonight but the pressure of some upset losses seems to have got to him. He is boo'd unmercifully by most of the fans as he leaves.

Post-Match:
As Brunzell and Rheinghans celebrated Dr. D hit the ring, having grabbed Brunzell's title belt from ringside, and smashed Brunzell over the back of the head with the title belt for the 3rd time. He then quickly left the ring before Rheinghans could react.

Ben Bassarab (champion) defeated Armand Rougeau by pinfall after a German suplex at 8:38
[Ben Bassarab retains the RCW Television Title]
-Rougeau has been elevated to this title shot the last couple of weeks by picking up key victories against Richard Charland and Steve O. However, Bassarab was determined to hold onto his belt, and despite giving up several years in experience showed that he was the more complete wrestler at this time. A conclusive victory.

Canadian Women's Title
3-Way Match
special guest referee: Rhonda Singh

Corrie England (champion)  v  Tawney England  v  Natasha

Singh had a hard time keeping only 2 competitors in the ring at one time. None of the 3 ladies wanted to be left out of a pin situation so it was constant interference. Marty Goldstein came out to the ring and yelled at the girls to settle things the right way, but even this didn't seem to make a difference. Singh started to get physical, removing the 3rd woman first time being Corrie, second time being Natasha. A 3 woman brawl then broke out and when Singh tried to remove Tawney, she punched the ref and then took her down with a faceslam. Corrie and Natasha added in elbow drops to the prone referee. Goldstein called for the bell. Bobby Duncum came out to the ring and sent both Natasha and Tawney scrambling out of the ring. He handed Corrie the title drawing jeers from the crowd.

No Contest at 10:21
[Corrie England retains the Canadian Women's Title]

Post-Match:
Marty Goldstein got on the mic and gave a message to the women. This is not over. In two weeks, on the March 23rd show they will do this all over again. Except this time all 3 women would be legal in the ring, like Texas Tornado style! It'll be another RCW first.

Bout #2:
Dr. D David Schultz defeated Gaston Aucoin by pinfall after a corkscrew neckbreaker at 2:02
-squash match

Post-Match:
Schultz says he is just biding his time, playing mind games with Brunzell, picking at him. Making sure the wounds never heal by tearing off the scabs every week. He predicts the belt will be his before the end of the month.
Jim Brunzell himself comes out and the two have to be seperated by RCW officials. Brunzell says he wants Schultz. Goldstein agrees to set up the match for next week on the 23rd for the title belt. Schultz says he wants to make sure that Brunzell doesn't run away, and this prompts Brunzell to suggest a steel cage match. He promises to avenge the blood he has shed ten fold in the steel cage.

Bout #3
Tod Hesterey defeated Robbie Royce by pinfall after a double underarm suplex at 6:11
-a very impressive victory for Tod over Royce. This should put him in TV title contention soon.

Post-Match:
Ron Strong attempts to get an interview with Hesterey but he is told my Tod's manager Miss Hartel that Tod is deaf and can not speak. Strong quips that he should be thankful for that but its over the head of the French debutante.

Bout #4
Strap Match
Non-Title
Tawney England defeated Corrie England by disqualification for outside interference (Bobby Duncum) at 11:14
-Tawney had this match won when Duncum came out and grabbed her by the hair. He held her until Corrie was able to recover and attack her sister. This brought Natasha out to the ring. When Duncum tried to grab her she was ready - and got a standing ovation from the crowd when she MACED the Texan in the face. She and Tawney then nailed Corrie with a double hanging vertical suplex.
Should be a great 3-way match next week for the women's title.

Interview:
Billy Robinson and Ben Bassarab (TV champ) are interviewed. Robinson informs Ron Strong that Dynamite Kid has left the territory after being fired by him. He says that DK being pinned in their tag match last week was inexcusable, and that he doesn't tolerate fools.
Bad News Allen comes to the ring. He says he may have had his differences with DKid over the years, but one thing DK is not is a loser, he's a hell of an athlete. He says it was Robinson who was the weak link in the match last week. Bassarab tries to say something but Allen cuts him off with a stare that makes him withdraw. Allen tells Robinson to prove it in the ring, to fight him later tonight. Robinson has no choice but to agree.

[end of first hour]

Special Arm Wrestling Challenge
King Tonga and Miss Hartel come to the ring where there is an arm wrestling table already set-up. They challenge any "Canadian wimps" to arm wrestle the Tongan monster. Security brings out one challenger from the crowd and he is quickly defeated by Tonga. They then bring a second challenger from the crowd. This guy is huge, obese, probably around 400 pounds. He gives Tonga all he can handle but eventually Tonga outlasts him and gets the victory. Afterward though Tonga chops him, and then throws him out of the ring.
The crowd errupts as Gene Kiniski comes out to the ring. He says he is no Canadian wimp and accepts the challenge. Hartel though stalls saying after the last bout Tonga needs a couple minute break. After the stalling is over they finally hook-up and Kiniski immediately grabs the advantage. He can't take the arm of Tonga down though and slowly the monster begins to control the contest. He has Kiniski almost all the way down when the former NWA champ leans across the top and headbutts Tonga. The fight is on and Kiniski is as dirty a fighter as you will find in wrestling. At one point he is munching on Tonga's cheek. The ring quickly fills up with RCW officials to break up the altercation.

Bout #5
Bad News Allen defeated Billy Robinson by pinfall after the enzuigiri at 14:20
-Robinson controlled the first half of this match, using a ground game and several submission holds to wear down Allen. But Allen fought back by attacking the knee of Robinson and kept at it until control of the match had changed. Allen continued to work the knee, and once Robinson's head was sagging and he was on his knees Allen nailed him with the enzuigiri and there was nothing the Brit could do about it.

Post-Match:
Robinson goes to the announce table and grabs a microphone. He's hobbling badly. He accuses Allen of fighting dirty and trying to cripple him. He says he won't get away with it. Robinson calls out TV champion Ben Bassarab. He tells Allen that next week Bassarab will fix things by beating on Allen. Bassarab doesn't seem very eager to take on the match but Robinson insists.

However, after Tawney hit her sister with her finisher Natasha chose not to break up the pin though she had a chance. Bobby Duncum had come down to ringside and was going to climb into the ring. So Natasha decided to let Tawney have the win by knocking Duncum off the ring apron with a baseball slide.

Post-Match:

Bout #5
RCW Television title Match

Ben Bassarab (champion) (/w Billy Robinson)
v
Bad News Allen

Bassarab started strong and controlled the first few minutes, keeping the action on the mat. Allen though got his fists going and took control. However he was too preoccupied with Robinson the entire match. When the veteran Brit got the opportunity he climbed on the apron to distract Allen. He received an enzuigiri for his troubles, but it was enough of a distraction to allow a sneak attack from behind by the champ, a roll up, a hand full of tights, and the pin.
Ben Bassarab defeated Bad News Allen by pinfall after a small packagae and a handfull of tights at 9:09
[Ben Bassarab retains the RCW Television Title]

Bout #6
Match for the vacant RCW Tag Team Titles

Bobby Duncum & Chris Lyon (/w Corrie England)
v
Masked Superstar & The Super Destroyer

The masked men used every old tag team trick in the book, starting with distracting the ref so the partner could choke the opponent, to double teaming when the other team's second man was furious, to faking tags by slapping themselves on the back.
But since the fans despise Duncum & Lyon so much they were pretty much behidn the masked men anyway. The match was very dirty and featured a minute long 4 man brawl outside the ring. Veteran referee Kenny Jay however allowed the match to continue as he wanted to see new tag champs crowned. Lyon saw himself outmuscled by the Superstar. He managed to block a piledriver finsher though long enough to allow Duncum to enter the ring and hit a lariat. Duncum then nailed Destroyer off the ring apron with another lariat.
While Jay was escorting Duncum out of the ring the Superstar choked Lyon, and the Destroyer pulled a steel bar and some duct tape from under the ring. He quickly duct taped the small bar to the bottom of his foot. Back on the apron he signalled Superstar to pull Lyon closer, but when he went for the loaded boot kick, Lyon ducked and it kicked Superstar instead. He was knocked out cold and Lyon just fell backward on him for the pin. Destroyer tried to enter the ring but he slipped and fell on the bar taped to the bottom of his boot.
Chris Lyon & Bobby Duncum defeated Masked Superstar & Super Destroyer by pinfall when Lyon rolled up Superstar at 14:44.
[Chris Lyon & Bobby Duncum won the RCW Tag Team Titles]

Post-Match:
Lyon & Duncum celebrate in the ring. Lyon says this will make Duncum the only 3 time RCW Tag Team champion, and it is also Lyon's 2nd tag title reign. He then goes from ecstatic to sombre. He says that it doesn't matter though, because he is one of only two men to be 3 time heavyweight champion but the other man gets all the glory there too. He says Kiniski got what was coming to him tonight from Tonga. Lyon then dons the Destroyer mask again and says that this is RCW's mask of shame.

RCW Heavyweight Title Match
Cage Match

Jim Brunzell (champion)  v  "Dr. D" David Schultz

As Brunzell entered the ring Dr. D was right on him, driving him to the cage with a knee to the ribcage. Schultz quickly went to the ribs and then added some suplexes to try and knock the wind out of the champ. It appeared to work. He tried to get him to submit with an abdominal stretch but eventually Brunzell got out. 5 minutes into this match and the champion has not had a stick of offense. The next couple minutes saw several near falls by Schultz. He hit a piledriver but only got a 2 count. He then bulldoged him, springing off the cage but only got a 2 count. He then threw Brunzell head first into the steel cage, but the champ turned and absorbed the blow with his shoulder. Bouncing off he caught Schultz in a belly to belly position with Dr. D's arms trapped in the side. The champ then just propelled Schultz toward him, driving him head first into the steel. Schultz came up bleeding.
Brunzell nailed a couple high knees, slammed him into the cage a couple more times but then Schultz got in a low blow to turn things around. Schultz then used the ropes to choke out the champ. A couple throws into the sides of the cage and now both men were busted wide open at the 12 minute mark.
Brunzell came off the top rope with a cross body block but only got a 2 count. He then went for flying leg scissors but Schultz held his ground caught Brunzell's feet around his neck and then drove him down to the mat. Schultz dropped a big elbow and got a 2 count. The fans were on their feet now cheering on the champ. Schultz then ripped off a turnbuckle cover but when he went to send Brunzell to the buckle the champ sprung up, turned around and dropkicked Schultz right in the knee. He then tried for a vertical suplex but Schultz reached out and grabbed the ref's waist  with one hand. Brunzell kind of lifted Schultz into the air, more sideways then up, and referee George Gadasky also took a tumble but remained on the job. The unexpectant extra weight though totally threw out the champ's back. He turned his back to the challenger in pain and Dr. D pounced, driving a knee into the champ's back and in the process driving him head first into the cage wall. Schultz then hit the champ with his corkscrew neckbreaker in the middle of the ring, and got 1, 2, 3 !!! New Champ!! The fans are livid.
David Schultz defeated Jim Brunzell by pinfall after a corkscrew neckbreaker at 14:37
[David Schultz won the RCW Heavyweight Title]

Post-Match:
Schultz is awarded the belt in the ring by Gadasky. Schultz has the mic and says he told everyone he would be champ, and that he was just playing mind games with Brunzell. Now he's the champ and its time to say I told you so. Schultz says he knows that Brunzell has a rematch clause coming up, and the sooner that match takes place the better while Brunzell is still hurting. So in two weeks time Schultz says they will hook up again for the rematch.
