River City Wrestling #110
Winnipeg Convention Cente, Winnipeg, MB
We are welcomed by the announcers Ron Strong & Mike Stone.
On the heels of Wrestling Summit, the greatest card in the history of River City Wrestling.
Pre-Match:
The Destroyer is interviewed by Ron Strong. He won a
tough match against Jerry Blackwell at Wrestling Summit by countout. Destroyer reflects credit, saying it is an indication
of the level of competition and great young, local talent being produced by River City Wrestling. He says the world needs
to sit up and take notice of RCW. Strong turns to the inevitable "what's next" question. Destroyer says he's still gunning
to get his title back from Chris Lyon, but he is also working on something else right now.
Destroyer calls out and introduces the world to RCW's newest talent Vic Gate, who
comes out and shakes hands with the former RCW champion. Destroyer intrduces Gate as an accomplished NCAA amateur wrestler
who has been training to be a pro for a couple of years down in Central States. Gate thanks Destroyer for the kind words and
advice he has offered since his arrival in Winnipeg.
Opening Bout:
Vic Gate, 229 lbs., St. Louis, Missouri (/w The Destroyer)
v
Cuban Assassin, 231 lbs., Havana, Cuba
Assassin wastes no time going into cheat mode, using chokes, eye gouges, and shots to the throat.
Gate tries to go to the outside for a break but that's a mistake as the Assassin is even more ruthless out of the ring. However,
the Cuban makes the mistake of being too cocky with the Destroyer and gives him a push. Destroyer pushes him back, sending
him to the ground. By the time he stands up Gate nails him with a flying clothesline off the ring apron. Gate then suplexes
Assassin on the ring floor, before mounting him for a series of punches to the head. Destroyer is urging Gate to reenter the
ring because of the count, but he doesn't pay any attention.
Double Countout at 5:02
In-ring Interview:
The Triumverate come to the ring, Chris Lyon (RCW Heavyweight Champion),
Bobby Duncum and Angelo Mosca (RCW Tag Team Champions), along with their valets Tawney and Corrie
England.
Chris Lyon is dressed in "Superstar" paraphenalia (tie-dye shirt, boa, glitter sunglases), he gives
a posedown with his championship belt draped over his shoulder.
Bobby Duncum is dressed as a minister, and holds a bible close to his heart.
Angelo Mosca is dressed in kung fu attire.
The England Sisters are in their ususal skin tight Jordache jeans and heavy metal concert shirts.
Lyon grabs the mic from Ron Strong and they chase him from the ring. The crowd reigns down jeers
on the Triumverte but Lyon just continues to pose.
Lyon cuts a SBG-esque interview telling how he beat the legend at his own game at Wrestling Summit.
Lyon says this proves that he is one of the top wrestlers in the world today.
He then turns the mic over to the Revrend Bobby Duncum and then over to Kung Fu Angleo Mosca who
both do short promos spoofing Graham.
Lyon then turns his comments to the rest of RCW. He tells everyone in the lockeroom that the Triumverate
have lifted this backwater promotion to new heights. RCW is now a world class promotion, and the Triumverate control all the
power. He challenges the entire lockeroom to pick it up a notch, or be left behind.
Bout #2
Jeannie Rahib (Toronto, ON) v Shelly Salter (Winnipeg, MB)
Women's match that see's former women's champ Rahib make short work of her smaller opponent, much
to the fans liking.
Jeannie Rahib defeats Shelly Salter by pinfall with a schoolgirl pin at 3:26
In-ring Interview:
Former RCW Tag Team champions the Roughnecks come to the ring, without their familiar
gold around their waist.
They give a dejected interview before demanding their rematch with the champions.
Bobby Duncum & Angelo Mosca come down to the ring to answer their foes. Mosca
calls them bums and says that they will get their guaranteed rematch within the 30 day period. But that match won't be tonight,
instead they will be giving their first title defense to Rob Flett & Neil Sutherland as receipt for their aid last month
in laying a beating on the Roughnecks.
Bout #3
RCW Tag Team Title Match
Bobby Duncum & Angelo Mosca (champions) (/w Corrie England)
v
Rob Flett & Neil Sutherland
The youngsters are no match for the bigger more experienced veterans. Squash.
Bobby Duncum & Angleo Mosca defeat Rob Flett & Neil Sutherland by pinfall when Mosca
pins Sutherland after a double team elbowdrop at 4:35
[Duncum & Mosca retain the RCW Tag Team Titles]
In-ring announcement;
Matchmaker Marty Goldstein comes to the ring. He says that Wrestling Summit was
a great success and that even if the fans don't like it, its great to see world class wrestlers like Bobby Duncum and Angleo
Mosca join the roster. He warns the Triumverate though that no man, woman, or group is greater then RCW because RCW is the
sum of all the fans, almost 5,000 of whom were at Wrestling Summit. Furthermore he says that with that success behind us that
we can expect many new wrestlers to be flocking to RCW and they will all want to take a shot at Lyon, Mosca, and Duncum.
However, in the meantime, since their is no clear cut #1 contender for the RCW title, he is setting
up a 4-man mini-tournament to happen over the next 2 weeks. with the winner to get a title shot at Chris Lyon. The 4 participants
will be Ray Stevens taking on Pat Patterson in one semi-final, and The Destroyer taking on Dynamite Kid in the other semi-final.
Both those matches will take place next week.
But while we wait for that tournament to happen, Goldstein tells Lyon to come to the ring as his
first title defense will be next against a surprise opponent.
Main Event
RCW Heavyweight Title Match
Mystery Opponent
Chris Lyon (champion), 236 lbs., Winnipeg, Manitoba (/w Tawney England)
v
Abdullah the Buthcer, 360 lbs., Sudan
Well the fans go nuts when Abby is brought out as the surprise opponent for Lyon. The champ tries
to leave but Goldstein comes out and tells him if he leaves, he forfeits the belt. Then Duncum and Mosca come down but are
promptly banned to the back.
Finally the match gets underway when Abby attacks Lyon from behind. He mauls the local champ and
nails him with some very heavy elbows. Tawney England pulls Lyon out of the ring by his feet.
Abby goes after England and she flees to the back.
This gives Lyon enough time to recover and he retreats back inside the ring. Abby enters the
ring, and Lyon promptly leaves. Abby then chases him around the ring until he seems to get winded. Lyon fetches a chair and
takes a running jump at Abby's head, busting him wide open.
Lyon goes to work on the legs of Abby clipping him, and kicking his knees out. Abby pulls Lyon down
to the arena floor with him and proceeds to bite his forehead, and now Lyon is bleeding too.
Abby tries to get up but his legs are too hurt so he drops down to one knee - right onto Lyon's crotch.
He tries again, this time he stumbles forward and lands his crotch right onto Lyon's face. The fans are loving it.
Abby goes to work on Lyon, biting his forehead. Ref George Gadasky manages to get Abby to take his
prey back into the ring. The Butcher lays in a couple of big knee drops. Tawney England returns though and manges to pull
Lyon out of the ring again by his feet. Abby tries to step out of the ring to follow Lyon but Gadasky tries to hold him back.
This causes Abby to lose control and he hammers the ref with an elbow between the eyes, and follows up with a powerslam. Gadasky
is out cold.
Abby leaves the ring and retrieves Lyon, rolling him back into the ring. He delivers a big splash
and covers, but there is no one there to count. Before he can get off of Lyon the ring is filled with Bobby Duncum
and Angelo Mosca who attack the Butcher. Mosca holds Abby's arms behind his back as Duncum lays in some punches.
When Duncum tries to nail him with a cowbell however, Abby ducks away and Duncum nails Mosca instead. Abby then powerslams
Duncum.
Lyon is on his feet and Abby nails him with another powerslam. Gadasky is waking up, Abby has Lyon
covered, the fans are going nuts...and Gadasky calls for the bell.
Chris Lyon defeats Abdullah the Butcher by disqualification for abuse of official at 5:13
[Chris Lyon retains the RCW Heavyweight Title]
The Triumverate manage to escape the clutches of the Butcher and head for the hills with the RCW
title in tow.
That's it for another edition of River City wrestling.
See ya next week
