River City Wrestling #160
Keystone Center, Brandon, Manitoba

Opening Bout:
Vic Gate defeated Bobby Jones by submission to the figure-four leglock at 2:03

-squash match

Promo with matchmaker Marty Goldstein;
Another River City Wrestling tradition, the September Battle Royal is coming on September 15th. A 20-man over the top battle royal, with the winner to receive not only a $5,000 purse but also a title shot against RCW Heavyweight champion Chris Lyon.

Angelo Mosca comes to the ring to personally tell Marty Goldstein that he will be entering.

“No One Like You” by the Scorpions plays and out comes the Triumvirate, Chris Lyon, Bobby Duncum, and the England Sisters. Lyon says that even if Mosca wins he won’t defend his title against him, he has nothing left to prove. Goldstein says no, Lyon will defend against whomever wins that battle royal. A pissed off Lyon says that it won’t be a problem as he and Bobby Duncum will enter into the battle royal to take care of Mosca. Goldstein says no again. He says any wrestler is eligible EXCEPT for Lyon because he can’t win a title shot against himself. However, Goldstein says he doesn’t want Lyon to feel left out, so he has a match defending his title tonight, against none other then RCW Television champion Butch Reed!!
Duncum calms Lyon down, and assures him that he will take care of Mosca and everyone else in the battle royal. At first this calms Lyon down until he does the math and starts accusing Duncum of wanting his title. Things get heated, but the girls step between the men and separate them, taking them out of the ring apart while Mosca looks on with a big grin on his face.

Goldstein says that in addtition to Mosca and Duncum, the battle royal will also have Dynamite Kid, the RCW tag champs the Hart Brothers, RCW TV champion Butch Reed, Vic Gate, Jim Brunzell, Brad Rheinghans, Gamma Singh, Bad News Allen, Kevin Kelly, Ben Bassarab, Tex Cobb, and flying in from the World Wrestling Federation, Tiger Chung Lee.

Bout #2:
Jim Brunzell defeated Butch Stevenson by pinfall after a flying dropkick at 4:51

-squash match

We are magically transported via the videotape to a high school gym. We see a group of young ladies stretching on exercise mats, all wearing the current trend of pastel and fluorescent color spandex work out clothes, some with the oversized t-shirts that say things like “Life” or “Peace”. “Let’s Get Physical” by Olivia Newton-John plays gently in the background as the girls stretch. Suddenly the doors open and the instructor walks in wearing a blue leotard over pink tights, and a pink headband. She looks very fit for a woman who may be pushing her late 30’s. It is Miss Hartel who we saw last week in a classroom setting.
She orders the class to start and begins with some stretches.
After about a half minute the door opens and the first male walks into the class. He apologizes to Miss Hartel for being late. He is wearing a pink shirt and blue adidas windpants. Miss Hartel looks him up and down before responding with a smile, “you are forgiven. You are just in time, but please remain after class so I can catch you up on what you missed.” She gives him a wink, he just gulps, and several of the high school girls giggle.

Promo;
In theatres this weekend, “Bolero” starring Bo Derek, written & directed by John Derek. An adventure in eXtasy. Follows the tale of a young woman's sexual awakening and subsequent journey around the world in pursuit of her ideal lover. Encounters include an Arabian sheik and a Spanish bullfighter. Her friend and butler accompany her and help to arrange her couplings.

Bout #3:
RCW Tag Team Title Match
Bret & Keith Hart (champions) v Neil Sutherland & Rob Flett

The challengers were a bit over their heads in this one, but used enough cheating tactics and double teams to survive for a few minutes. Bad News Allen came down to ringside apparently to scout out the tag champions which also distracted the Harts. In the end though once the tag champs got their act together they quickly put the match to an end.

The Hart Brothers defeated Sutherland & Flett by submission when Keith made Flett submit to the Indian deathlock at 6:05

Main Event
RCW Heavyweight Title Match
Chris Lyon (champion) (/w Tawney England)
V
Butch Reed

Lyon uses a hide and frustrate the challenger plan for the first few minutes of this match. This ends once Reed becomes fed-up enough to ignore the referee completely. They brawl outside the ring with Reed gaining the advantage. He has Lyon laying across the announce table and is peppering in punches when Tawney England jumps on his back and tries to choke him out. Reed though flips England over his shoulder and splashes her right on top of Lyon. Order is restored and the match goes back inside. Reed takes his time and lays out a measured attack of power moves as well as wear down holds. He controls the next few minutes without attempting for the knockout punch. This looks like it may have been a mistake when Lyon uses a distraction to go low on Reed with a groin shot. He then nails a snap suplex, a leg drop, and then a monkey flip. He follows this up by bouncing Reed off the ropes with a slingshot suplex but can only get a 2 count.
Lyon makes the mistake of going to the top rope but is too slow and ends up getting knees to the ribs as he tries to splash down on Reed. Both men are slow to recover, but when they do Reed gets in the first punch. He backs Lyon across the ring with a couple elbows to the head. He then biels the champ to the middle of the ring and then charges, taking him down with a big shoulder. He backs into the corner in preperation for a flying shoulder block finisher but as he tries to run Tawney trips him up. Lyon goes to the attack and we have to fast forward a few minutes because of television time constraints.

We are now 16 minutes into this match with 4 minutes remaining in the television time.

Reed is back in control and there is a small trickle of blood coming down Lyon’s head. Reed punishes him in the corner, then lays some forearms to his back, and then nails a backbreaker. After getting only a 2 count he applies the standing surfboard which takes Lyon almost a minute to break. Reed though doesn’t break clean, instead taking Lyon over with a belly to back suplex. Referee George Gadasky warns Reed while Tawney England pulls Lyon out of the ring by his feet. She helps him to his feet and supporting some of his weight they try to amble their way up the walkway to the back. Reed though sees what is happening and chases them down. He punches Lyon all the way back to the ring and then punishes the back of the champ by slamming him back first into the ring apron. Back inside the ring Reed hits a belly-to-back suplex, and then a fist drop but only gets a 2 count. The ring announcer informs us that there is only 1 minute remaining in this match.

Reed is in a hurry and after another failed pin attempt following a backbreaker, he sets Lyon up on the top turnbuckle facing out of the ring. He climbs up apparently looking to take the champ down with a belly to back superplex. Lyon though fights it off first by holding onto the ropes and then with back elbows. Reed punches back and looks like he is finally going to complete the move when Tawney jumps up on the apron and wraps her arms around both men to hold them fast. Gadasky counts her off, but by now there is only 15 seconds remaining in the match. Reed gives Lyon one more punch and then nails the back drop superplex. Both men are down though and Gadasky begins his count to 10. At the count of 7 Reed finally drapes an arm over the fallen champ. He gets, 1, 2, Lyon rolls out of the pin, just as the bell rings to end the match in a time limit draw.

Tawney grabs the belt and enters the ring to help Lyon out. The champ is looking like anything but a champion as he is bleeding profusely from the head now.

20-minute time limit draw
[approximately 14 minutes shown on television]
[Chris Lyon retains the RCW Heavyweight Title]

Post-Match:
Marty Goldstein
comes out and confers with George Gadasky then leaves. Gadasky says that while the 20-minute time limit is for television, RCW title matches are 60 minute matches. Therefore, by orders of the matchmaker this match will continue from the 20 minute mark. Furthermore, due to her outside interference during this match so far, Gadasky orders Tawney England to the back and bans her from ringside. The fans go ballistic cheering on the news.
Lyon is a bloody mess as both men attempt to regain their composure to begin this match again.

But we are out of time. We are pre-empted next week for special local station broadcasting, but will pick up the remains of this match in two weeks time at the beginning of the first ever 2 hour edition of River City Wrestling.

See ya on September 15th for the finale of the Chris Lyon - Butch Reed classic, as well as for the annual over the top Battle Royal.
See ya then!

2 hour edition of River City Wrestling

We pick up from two weeks ago with Chris Lyon and Butch Reed resuming their title match after 20 minutes already expired.

Opening Bout:
RCW Heavyweight Title Match
60-minute time limit - 20 minutes expired - Tawney England banned from ringside

Chris Lyon (champion) v Butch Reed

Reed goes right after the bloodied head of Lyon. The footage is obscured as distortion is used to cover up the blood on Lyon. Reed batters Lyon in and out of the ring. He appears to be having a lot of fun and not trying for a pinfall. Finally inside he nails a flying bulldog but only gets a 2 count as Lyon drapes a foot over the bottom strand. Reed pulls Lyon out of the ring and then slams him back first into the ring apron, and then suplexes him onto his back. The match goes back inside and Reed tries to get Lyon to submit by applying a backbreaker, holding the champ over his knee. After this fails Reed applies a hangman, trying to get Lyon to pass out from loss of blood and oxygen. He applies this move three times with a few backbreakers in between. He can’t however get Lyon to submit or be pinned. Then he whips him off the ropes and is ready to finish things with his flying shoulder block finisher. But somehow instincts kick in and Lyon grabs a hold of the top rope, slamming himself down to the mat hard. Reed though has already committed and flies through the air, landing on the bottom rope and skidding to the floor below. Both men are down. Gadasky can’t count Reed out though as Lyon isn’t in a neutral corner. So he begins a slow count to 10 even though one man is in the ring, and one out of the ring. Gadasky reaches the count of 9 as Reed manages to roll himself back in the ring. Lyon tries to pull himself to his feet but he loses his balance and falls out of the ring. Gadasky follows him, ordering Reed to stay put. Outside the ring Gadasky takes a good look at the bloody visage of Lyon and then calls for a break in the action. He goes over the announce table and asks for the athletic commission’s doctor to come to the ring. After a few seconds the doctor comes out and is followed shortly after by Marty Goldstein and then Bobby Duncum. Reed and Duncum jaw at each other but Duncum keeps his distance out of the ring.
In the meantime the doctor seems to be getting some pressure from Goldstein to keep the match going. Reluctantly the doctor does what he can to stop the bleeding and cleans him up. Gadasky orders the match to continue. However, Duncum is livid, and he comes over and starts to argue with Goldstein and the doctor. Several RCW officials have to come down to separate them. All attention, including Reed’s is now on Duncum as he is physically escorted away from the ring by 4 spare wrestlers and referees.

Reed turns his attention to Lyon who has climbed back onto the ring apron. But Lyon has something he grabbed from the doctor, a bottle of antiseptic which he has broken the top off of. He throws it right into the face of Reed, who covers his eyes and goes down kicking and screaming, the liquid burning his eyes.
Lyon grabs him into the Boston crab and Reed is thrashing around and screaming so much that Gadasky must think he is submitting and calls for the bell.
The fans rain down debris at the ring as Lyon rolls out of the ring, grabs his belt, and walks up the aisle way, literally leaving a trail of blood drops behind him.

Promo; Miss Hartel’s Bistro;
Imagine if you will a quaint little French bistro, set up in the middle of the ring. Miss Hartel is wearing a stylish skirt, and looks alluring sitting with her stocking legs crossed.
Today she is interviewing the RCW tag champions, Keith & Bret the Hart Brothers. She gets into it with them calling them uncouth rednecks from Alberta. She compares Albertans to Texans, but suggests its not their fault, its genetic. A by-product of inbreeding. They are frustrated but refuse to hit a woman. They say that diversity is what helps this country be so great. They tell her to look in the mirror and see if being French Canadian if she is not different then many other Canadians. She looks shocked and reaches out and slaps Bret across the face. He makes to punch her but his brother Keith holds him back until he regains his composure. She says she most certainly is not one of those uncultured French Candians, who have bastardized both the English and French languages. She assures them that she is Parisian French, the epicenter of world culture and the arts. She says if they want to meet some real men that she is molding in that image she would be pleased to introduce them. She calls out the two young men we have seen in her two promos. Ther are Luc Fortier and Pino Cirella. She says Luc is a French Canadian, and Pino is Italian from Montreal, but they are learning the more sophisticated ways of Parisian living under her tutelage.
In comparison to the Hart brothers who are in t-shirts and jeans these guys are wearing the style of the time. Luc is sporting a pair of jean overalls with no shirt underneath which shows off his broad and muscular chest. The smaller Pino is wearing a pink t-shirt under a brown leather jacket, and a pair of acid wash jeans. Both men are wearing a raspberry color beret. The Harts go nose to nose with the newcomers but nothing comes of it, as Keith tells them they know where to find them if they want a match. Luc indicates they want the tag titles by feigning placing a title belt around his waist, but they don’t push the confrontation. After the Hart brothers retreat the young men take turns kissing Miss Hartel on each cheek.

Bout #4:
Angelo Mosca v Bad News Allen

Fairly even fight with Allen forced to carry much of the action as Mosca’s age and weight are beginning to become a hindrance to an entertaining match. Allen’s undoing however happens when he tries for his enzuigiri finisher and Mosca blocks it with a two arm defensive pose. Allen hits the match hard and Mosca drops his big elbow finisher to pick up the win.

Tiger Chung Lee defeated Robbie Royce by pinfall after a roundhouse kick at 5:48

Bout #6:
RCW Television Title Match
Butch Reed (champion) v Vic Gate

Reed came to the ring with one eye bandaged. Remember that the match shown earlier tonight actually took place two weeks ago so most of the effects of the antiseptic attack have gone. However, he is still wrestling with the handi-cap in a match that was signed already so he can’t back down unless he forfeits the title. This advantage allows Gate to control more of the match then he normally would. However, Reed makes the big comeback, only to miss a flying shoulder block and go flying between the ropes to the ground below because of his eye injury. Gate decides to take the win any way he can even if it means no title win.

Opening Bout:
Bobby Duncum defeated Robbie Royce by pinfall after a flying bulldog at 5:37

-squash match, but this youngster Robbie Royce looks a lot better then some of the other prelim guys that have been used by RCW

Post-Match Interview:
Bobby Duncum
insists that all is okay with the Triumvirate, but no immediate plans are in place to replace Mosca with a different 3rd member. He indicates that Bad News Allen failed to get the job done, and their association is over. Duncum says that Butch Reed got what was coming to him, even if Chris Lyon had no idea that the bottle had antiseptic in it. He insists Lyon thought it was water, to use to clean the cuts.

Promo; Miss Hartel’s Bistro;
On this episode of the faux French bistro setting we have guests Magnificent Kevin Kelly and his valet Desiree Petersen. Hartel is actually complimentary towards Kelly, especially his body. As the interview progresses a mutual attraction between Hartel and Kelly seems to grow with Petersen getting more ignored and pissed off by the minute. Finally unable to take anymore as Hartel begins to rub down the pecs of Kelly, Petersen tells her to back off her man. Desiree says that Hartel has her own boys, and she does mean boys to play with. Desiree says its obvious that Hartel is nothing more then a predator, a cougar, and she wouldn’t be able to handle a real man like Kelly. With that Petersen lays a big smooch on Kevin Kelly and then leads him out of the ring. Hartel stands in the ring pouting.

Bout #2:
Dynamite Kid defeated Brian Jewel by pinfall when Jewel’s shoulders were on the mat while in a figure-four leglock at 3:34

-squash match

Interview:
RCW TV champion Butch Reed. Says his eyes have fully recovered from the attack by Chris Lyon, with no permanent damage. He vows he will have his revenge, but unfortunately his first piece of business will be a rematch against Vic Gate next week. He calls Gate’s countout victory last week a cheap shot, and that he will be put in his place next week. Then he vows he will hunt down and destroy the Triumvirate.

Bout #3
Brad Rheinghans & Ben Bassarab defeated Neil Sutherland & Rob Flett by pinfall when Rheinghans pinned Flett after an Olympic suplex at 7:02

-Flett and Sutherland are just on the cusp between being prelim wrestlers and part of the regular roster. It may take them a couple more years and a change of scenery for them to develop to the next step.

Interview:
Brad Rheinghans and Ben Bassarab
are interviewed after their victory. While they are happy to have won, and enjoyed teaming together, they insist this will not be a regular thing and both men have their sites on individual goals.

Bout #4
Luc Fortier & Pino Cirella (/w Miss Hartel) defeated Dave Petro & Bruce Dean by pinfall when Fortier pinned Dean after a full nelson slam at 7:53

-squash match. Debut of Fortier & Cirella, while green rookies still outclassed their opponents.

Bout #5
Canadian Women’s Championship Match
Judy Martin (champion) defeated Corrie England by pinfall after a piledriver at 5:49
[Judy Martin retains the Canadian Women’s Title]
-England gave it a good go, but she hasn’t been in the ring much lately and Martin has a decided experience advantage.

Interview;
Judy Martin
drops names and title defenses from across Canada to help put the title over with the fans. She claims that there are some good women workers coming up through the ranks here in western Canada, but that no one is going to take this title (she calls it her meal ticket) away from her.

Bout #6
RCW Tag Team Title Match
The Hart Brothers defeated Gama Singh and Bad News Allen by pinfall when Bret pinned Singh after a knee drop from the top rope at 10:55
[The Hart Brothers retain the RCW Tag Team Titles]
-good competitive match with the end in doubt right until it happened in the midst of a 4 man brawl

Interview:
The Hart Brothers
were interviewed after the victory. They were rudely interrupted however by Miss Hartel and Fortier/Cirella. They were hounding the Hart Brothers for a title shot next week. Interviewer Ron Strong took exception telling them they have not earned their place at the table yet. But Hartel insists there is no one else to challenge them. This statement is however disputed seconds later when Ben Bassarab shows up. He says that he and Brad Rheinghans would be more then happy to test the youngsters next week in a #1 contenders match. The newcomers have no real option but to accept.

Main Event
RCW Heavyweight Title Match
Chris Lyon (champion) (/w Tawney England)
v
Jim Brunzell

Tawney made a big deal out of Brunzell’s knee pads, insisting that referee George Gadasky check them. This of course was just a distraction and Lyon tried to attack Brunzell before the bell. But Brunzell used Gadasky, flipping over his back to avoid Lyon and then giving him a faceplant using a drop toe hold.
Brunzell was a house o’fire to start the match, and nailed a pair of flying dropkicks early. But when he went for the pin England jumped on the ring apron so Brunzell didn’t make the cover, falling for the distraction. He continued to punish the champ who then took a powder out of the ring. He called for a time out but Brunzell went right after him. Jumpin’ Jimmy tossed Lyon off the guardrail and then hit him with a flying forearm smash.
Brunzell rolled Lyon back into the ring, but England grabbed his leg and prevented him from entering the ring which allowed Lyon to get in a knee to the ribs, and his first advantage of the match. Lyon went right to work on Brunzell’s back with a bodyslam, backbreaker, surfboard, and several forearms and knees to the small of the back. He tried for the Boston crab but Brunzell had it well scouted and countered by rolling up Lyon and getting a 2 count.
Back on their feet they nailed each other with simultaneous dropkicks. They scrambled to their feet and once again collided, this time with clotheslines. Brunzell got to his feet and took Lyon down with a hiptoss and then dropped a knee right between the eyes. He made the cover but only got a 2 count.
Big Bad Bobby Duncum came down to ringside.
Gadasky was distracted by Duncum whom refused to leave the ringside area. This allowed England to enter the ring and crotch Brunzell from behind. She then passed Lyon a pair of brass knuckles. However, before he could use the knuckles Gadasky turned his attention back from Duncum so Lyon had to stash them in his trunks. The champ climbed to the top turnbuckle and nailed Brunzell with a missile dropkick. Lyon was a bit shaken up by his hard landing though which is the only thing that saved Brunzell as he was able to kick out at the count of 2.
Hacksaw Butch Reed ran down to the ring and attacked Duncum from behind. He threw him into the guardrail and then began to punch him all the way back up the aisle.
Inside the ring Lyon was still pushing his advantage. During the Reed attack the referee was again distracted which allowed the champ to pull out the brass knuckles. However, when he took a swing at Jimmy the challenger blocked it and fired back with a right hand of his own. Lyon then drove his knee into the gut of Brunzell, but was forced to once again stash the knux in his trunks as Gadasky was back on the job.
Lyon went after the back again, and applied the Boston crab but this time Brunzell was close enough to reach the ropes. England jumped on the ring apron once again to distract the ref and allow Lyon to dig into his trunks for the brass knux. But the challenger figured out what was happening and delivered a kick right to the hand of Lyon which was inside his trunks. Referee Gadasky turned around to see the champ with his hand “in his trunks” and hopping up and down in pain. Gadasky gave Brunzell a stern warning about a low blow. Lyon used that opportunity to pass the knux back to England. When Gadasky checked Lyon for a foreign object at Brunzell's insistence he couldn’t find one.
Lyon then insisted that Gadasky check Brunzell’s tights which was preposterous but in fairness the referee decided to do the check. This of course allowed Lyon to come across the top with a punch to the head. Lyon delivered some kicks and then set up Brunzell for the slingshot suplex. However Brunzell shifted his weight, and after bouncing off the ropes he managed to land on the other side of the ring apron. He then drove his shoulder between the ropes nailing Lyon in the midsection. Lyon flew backward and ran right into Gadasky who went down.
England grabbed Brunzell’s leg and pulled him off the ring apron. She attempted to hit him using the brass knux but he blocked it and took them away, stuffing them down his trunks.
Brunzell then re-entered the ring. He attempted to send Lyon to the buckle, but the champ reversed it and sent the challenger in. Lyon followed in to attack, but Brunzell flipped upward using the top ropes and slid behind Lyon who crashed head first into the buckle. Gadasky was back on the job now. Brunzell rolled up the champ with an inside cradle and got the 1, 2, 3 !!!

NEW Champion, New Champion!!

Jim Brunzell defeated Chris Lyon by pinfall with an inside cradle at 14:01
[Jim Brunzell wins the RCW Heavyweight Title]

Post-Match:
The fans go crazy as Gadasky retrieves the belt and presents it to Jumpin’ Jimmy who is on his knees clutching the gold as his hand is raised by the head referee. Lyon and England corner Gadasky and start to complain, obviously trying to point out that Brunzell has a pair of brass knuckles in his tights.
Butch Reed comes down to the ring, followed by Ben Basasrab, the Hart Brothers, and Brad Rheinghans. They celebrate the big victory with Brunzell.

Suddenly Chris Lyon has a mic and the celebration comes to a screeching halt. He is flanked by Tawney England on one side and Bobby Duncum on the other. Lyon “orders” everyone not involved in the match to leave the ring. The wrestlers part but don’t leave the ring. Lyon says Brunzell is a cheat and has a pair of brass knuckles in his trunks, and that he couldn’t have won the match without them. Reed goes ballistic and tries to attack Lyon but cooler heads prevail and he is held back by some of the others. All heads turn to Brunzell who is looking sheepish. The fans are jeering, as Brunzell reaches into his tights because they know what transpired, they had the best seats in the house. Unfortunately Brunzell pulls out the pair of brass knux from his trunks. The other fan favorite wrestlers look aghast, and Reed punches a turnbuckle in frustration. Gadasky can’t believe it and is just staring at Brunzell.

Jumpin’ Jimmy doesn’t even put up a fight as Lyon reaches out and takes the belt out of his hands. The fans jeer and the ring begins to be littered with Coke cups.
As Lyon turns to leave with the belt though, Gadasky reaches out and places his hand on his wrist. The referee’s eyes however have never left Brunzell.

Everyone just freezes.

The announcers are going nuts trying to figure out what is going to happen.

But we are out of time.

That’s it for another edition of River City Wrestling.

See ya next week!!

Announcers Ron Strong and Mike Stone welcome us to another edition of River City Wrestling. They tell us that the RCW phone lines have been on fire this week as calls pour in to find out what happened after we went off the air last week. Jim Brunzell had won the RCW title from Chris Lyon but was then caught possessing a pair of brass knuckles. Referee George Gadasky could not have known that Brunzell had taken those knux from Lyon’s valet Tawney England as a defensive measure and never used them. Mike Stone though insists that regardless of intention the rules are clear; if you bring a foreign object into the ring it is cause for disqualification. Ron Strong says that we all await the outcome of that later in the show.

Opening Bout:
Angelo Mosca defeated Bruce Moffat by submission to the bearhug at 6:54
-squash match

Interview:
Ron Strong "attempts" to do a backstage interview with a new wrestler here in River City Wrestling. He is an average height, stocky, French Canadian by the name of Richard Charland. Strong however is having trouble getting a decent interview because Charland is too busy alternating between jumping jacks and squat thrusts. Strong asks Charland what the fans can expect to see from him, what his style or favorite moves are in the ring. Charland says that he is known as “perpetual motion” Richard Charland because he is never standing still. When Strong attempts a follow up question Charland suddenly drops out of sight, having gone down for another set of squat thrusts. Through labored breaths we can hear him counting, 3, 4, 5, and Strong just shakes his head and walks away.

Bout #2
Natasha defeated Shelly Salter by pinfall after a sunset flip at 5:00
-Natasha must be one of those up and coming western Canadian female wrestlers that Judy Martin alluded to last week. She looked pretty convincing against Salter.

Promo;
Matchmaker Marty Goldstein gives a promo in the ring regarding the situation with the Heavyweight title. Goldstein says that despite everything that went down last week, and despite being able to see what occurred in hindsight from the videotape, there is only one thing that matters. RCW rules state that the referee’s decision is final. Goldstein says that Gadasky made his decision shortly after we went off the air, and that decision will be shown at the top of our second hour tonight. Goldstein adds that regardless of the outcome, due to the controversy surrounding the match, a rematch has already been signed for the main event tonight. It will be Chris Lyon against Jim Brunzell for the RCW Heavyweight title. All that remains to be seen is who enters that match as champion.

Bout #3
Neil Sutherland and Rob Flett defeated Randy Webber & Louis Laurence by pinfall when Sutherland pinned Webber after a stuffed piledriver at 8:03

-a big win for the young villain team.

Interview:
Ron Strong returns to try and get an interview with Charland. This time he finds him working out on the stationery bike while at the same time bouncing a tennis ball off of the wall. Charland finds it hard to concentrate on the questions and again Strong is forced to give up on the interview. Charland yells at Strong as he leaves, “try me after my match”.

Promo; An RCW music video is shown with highlights of Jim Brunzell, Butch Reed, and Angelo Mosca beating up on Bobby Duncum and Chris Lyon in various matches. The video is set to “We’re Not Gonna To Take It” by Twisted Sister.

Bout #4
Magnificent Kevin Kelly (/w Desiree Petersen) v Tex Cobb

A big match for both men as they try and put themselves back in the title hunt. Lots of punches and rest holds. Kelly worked the abdominal stretch using the ropes for extra leverage behind the back of the ref. The match spilled outside the ring where it became very vicious. Referee Kenny Jay was on the verge of throwing the match out when the two men went back into the ring. Kelly though nailed Cobb with a punch to the throat, then using the back of his leg drove Cobb’s head into the mat. Kelly proceeded to power bomb Cobb and get the 3 count.

Kevin Kelly defeated Tex Cobb by pinfall after a power bomb at 9:35

Post-Match:
Kelly continued his attack on Cobb after the match, ramming him head first into the ringpost. He then threw him out of the ring and then power bombed him through the announce table!
Kenny Jay immediately called for medical attention, and after a commercial time out they were just removing Cobb on a stretcher.

[end of first hour]

Special Footage;
As promised we return to the ring at the end of last week’s show, the cameras still rolling. Bassarab and the Harts are just kind of hanging back. Butch Reed seems more pissed off at Lyon then anything and is berating Gadasky from behind him. Rheinghans is standing tall right beside Jim Brunzell.
Lyon slowly turns around to face Gadasky as both of them now have a hand on the belt between them. The fans cheer as Gadasky pulls the belt out of Lyon’s grasp, and then motions for Lyon to settle down as he takes the microphone.
After an effective pause Gadasky says that it is unfortunate after such a great victory that Jim Brunzell was caught with a foreign object as that is cause for an automatic disqualification. The Triumvirate celebrate this jumping up and down, but again Gadasky motions for them to settle down. George says that Jim claims to have taken the knux away from Tawney England. The fans cheer this but the Triumvirate shake their heads no, and vow it never happened. Lyon even crosses his heart. George says he has known Chris Lyon for a couple years now, and Jim Brunzell for a few years as well. Since the referee decision is final, it needs to be the right decision, not just by the book. Gadasky says he will stake his reputation and his job on the fact that Jim Brunzell is telling the truth. Furthermore, he never saw Brunzell use the foreign object and never even saw him with it during the match. Therefore, it is his decision, and it is final, that the outcome of the match will stand. With that he hands the belt back to Brunzell. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new RCW Heavyweight champion.

A short brawl ensues initiated by Butch Reed and Bobby Duncum, but the fan favorites outnumber the Triumvirate and clear them from the ring with ease. They then finish their celebration with the new RCW champion, Jumpin’ Jim Brunzell.

Bout #5:
#1 Contenders Match
Ben Bassarab & Brad Rheinghans
V
Luc Fortier & Pino Cirella (/w Miss Hartel)

Bassarab and Rheinghans controlled most of this match. About 7 minutes in the rookies finally started to double team to take an advantage. Bassarab played Ricky Morton and Rheinghans was too straight laced to stop the double teams, relying on referee Wyatt Hall to do what he could to stop it. Bassarab made the tag out to Rheinghans who came in all piss and vinegar but he too fell to a double team shot from behind. Bassarab was tired but he wasn’t going to stand by and watch, so he made it a 4-way brawl. While Hall tried to break up the two illegal men Bassarab and Cirella, Hartel got up on the ring apron and nailed Rheinghans from behind with her purse. It stunned Rheinghans just enough to allow Fortier to attack with a kick to the gut and a DDT. He followed this up with his full nelson slam finisher and Hall was back to make the count.

Fortier & Cirella defeated Bassarab & Rheinghans by pinfall when Fortier pinned Rheinghans after a full nelson slam (helped by outside interference) at 12:50

Bout #6
Richard Charland v Sonny Two Rivers

Charland delayed the start of his match so he could finish his warm-ups (jumping jacks and squat thrusts). Rivers tried to get to him but was held back by referee Buddy Lane. When Lane’s back was turned Charland turned from doing jumping jacks to mocking Rivers with his own version of a rain dance. Rivers went ballistic but was held back by Lane. When the ref turned around Charland would pretend to be doing jumping jacks again. By the time the bell sounded Rivers was so mad he charged right at Charland who deftly stepped to the side and took Rivers down with a drop toe hold. Rivers’ head missed the turnbuckle smashing into the ringpost instead. Charland dragged his body to the middle of the ring and pinned him.

“Perpetual Motion” Richard Charland defeated Sonny Two Rivers by pinfall after a drop toe hold at 0:10

Post-Match:

Ron Strong enters the ring to try and get an interview with “Perpetual Motion” but he is rebuked. Charland says that match was too short, it was a travesty and a waste of his time, and as a result he will have to continue working out until he gets some real exercise. Strong throws up his arms in disgust as Charland walks away. Strong informs us that we just witnessed a River City Wrestling record; quickest victory in just ten seconds.

Bout #7:
RCW Television Title Match - Rematch
Butch Reed (champion) v Vic Gate

After a couple minutes Gate started to get the feeling, rightfully so, that his victory two weeks ago by countout may have been a fluke. Reed stops everything Gate throws at him and then escalates the level of violence. The match spills outside where referee Kenny Jay has to warn Reed about getting dq’d as he is taking too many liberties with his opponent. Back inside Gate goes to the throat for an advantage and then works a sleeperhold where he keeps lowering the forearm to make it a choke when the ref isn’t right on the spot. Finally Reed breaks it by getting to his feet and turning it into a Samoan drop. They play criss-cross off the ropes and Gate tries to take Reed down with a shoulderblock – that’s a big mistake. Reed barely moves as Gate bounces off. The champ then lowers a knee into the lower, the very lower, midsection of Gate. Reed gets warned by Jay, but then he comes flying off the ropes and nails Gate with a flying clothesline. He then follows that up with a flying shoulderblock and gets the win.

Butch Reed defeated Vic Gate by pinfall after a flying shoulderblock at 7:12
[Butch Reed retains the RCW Television Title]

Interview:
Ron Strong is backstage to get an interview with Richard Charland. He says he is determined to do the interview no matter how much “Perpetual Motion” is working out and moving around. Strong knocks on the dressing room door and after there is no answer he walks in, and tells the camera man to follow. Inside he finds Charland, on top of the training table, fast asleep, snoring.

Main Event
RCW Heavyweight Title Match – Return Match

Jim Brunzell (champion)
V
Chris Lyon (/w Tawney England)

The referee assigned for tonight was once again head referee George Gadasky, who oversaw the controversial match last week between these two. Lyon and England immediately confronted him trying to get a different ref instead. Gadasky countered by trying to order England to the back but she just screamed about having the right to be there as a manager. Finally Marty Goldstein came down to the ring to sort things out. First off he says he stands behind his officials, and its Gadasky’s job to appoint officials to matches, and if he sees fit to officiate this match then that is his perogative. However, since England has not done anything wrong – yet in this match – she is right, she should be allowed to stay. But just to make sure she does not get involved like she has been doing so much lately, she will be handcuffed to the guardrail, out of reach of the ring. Lyon and England are livid but there isn’t a damn thing they can do about it.

Lyon starts the match off strong with some forearms and a monkey flip. He then goes right after the back of Brunzell again. He locks on a Boston crab but Brunzell manages to make it to the ropes after almost a full minute in the hold. The action spills outside of the ring where they battle around until they reach England. She tries to get involved but Brunzell does not get close enough. The new champ though does manage to duck under a clothesline attempt and Lyon continues through striking England. Brunzell takes advantage of Lyon’s distress and nails a German suplex on the floor mats.
The match goes back inside where Brunzell nails a pair of flying dropkicks, the second one knocking Lyon out of the ring. Lyon plays chicken for a bit, conferring with England, rolling into the ring and then back out again, and Brunzell begins to lose his temper. As Gadasky has to restrain Brunzell Lyon grabs the ring bell from the announce table and places it under the ring apron. He enters the ring and is immediately besieged by Brunzell. Jumpin’ Jimmy goes to work with a vertical suplex, some spinning toe holds, and then locks on the Indian death lock. However they are too close to the ropes and Lyon gets the break. The former champ then feigns leaving the ring and Brunzell has had all he can take and goes right after Lyon. The cagey villain though turns in time and gouges the eyes of Brunzell. He then slams his head into the turnbuckle and then drags his forehead across the top rope. Lyon continues his unscientific assault and then bounces Brunzell off the ropes with a slingshot suplex. He gets 1, 2, Kickout!! Lyon complains to the ref but Gadasky stands his ground. Lyon then nails a German suplex and again makes the cover, 1, 2, Kickout!! Brunzell manages to stay alive and Lyon is losing his temper.

Suddenly as Lyon is really berating Gadasky all attention turns to outside the ring. There is a masked female “fan” who has run in from the crowd and is attacking Tawney England. She is having a hard time defending herself because she is handcuffed to the barricade. A couple of officials and security are on the scene but Gadasky also leaves the ring and he is fishing for the key to the handcuffs which he has in his pocket. Back inside the ring Lyon takes the opportunity to blatantly choke Brunzell in the middle of the ring. Brunzell can’t breath and his legs are pumping up and down smacking the mat as he is being choked out. The fans are going crazy but no one is paying attention to the Heavyweight title match.

Lyon slips out of the ring and grabs the ring bell which he had stashed close by earlier. He climbs to the top turnbuckle with the bell. In the meantime security has grabbed a hold of the masked fan and are trying to detain her as Gadasky is trying to unlock a fallen Tawney England. In the scuffle the masked fan tries to get away from security but one of them tries to pull her back, by the mask. It comes off to reveal Corrie England!! Gadasky looks confused until he looks back inside the ring realizing they have been duped. Lyon is perched on top with the ring bell and comes flying off, smashing the fallen Brunzell right across the head. The champ is busted wide open and Lyon throws the ring bell out of the ring.

Lyon makes the cover as the fans boo and Gadasky calls for the bell. Of course the announcers just shrug their shoulders. Lyon can’t figure out whey Gadasky isn’t making the count. The ref leaves the ring, retrieves the bell and proceeds to smack it against the outside of the ringpost 3 times making it toll. He walks over to the announce table and Ron Strong announces that Chris Lyon has been disqualified.

Jim Brunzell defeated Chris Lyon by disqualification for using a foreign object at 11:57
[Jim Brunzell retains the RCW Heavyweight Title]

Post-Match;
Chris Lyon totally loses it. He punches Gadasky in the head and the referee is knocked out. He then re-enters the ring where Brunzell is lying and smashes him in the head once again with the ring bell. Blood is starting to pool on either side of the champ’s head as it flows off his forehead. Lyon climbs to the top rope with the bell once again and Brunzell is completely helpless. Thankfully Angelo Mosca hits the ring to make the save. Lyon leaps off the top to avoid Mosca and runs up the aisle to the back, taking Tawney with him. Angelo bends over to look at Brunzell and is calling for medical help as we fade to black.

That’s it for another edition of River City Wrestling.

See ya next week!!
