We are welcomed by the announcers Ron Strong & Mike Stone.

Opening Bout:

Stan Rodgers & Kelly Hobin v Butch Reed & Kendo Nagasaki (/w Mr. Ho)

An unruly brawl, as there has been too much bad blood involved already between these men for a fair fight. Rodgers and Hobin actually worked well together, neutralized Ho, and were in control of the match. However, Nagasaki took matters into his own hands by blowing green mist into the face of Hobin causing the disqualification.

Rodgers & Hobin defeated Reed & Nagasaki by disqualification when Nagasaki was disqualified for use of a foreign object at 8:52

Post-Match:
Rodgers and Hobin were extremely mad. As Hobin cleaned his face and received medical attention Rodgers threw out a challenge to Reed, Nagasaki & Ho to meet them and a partner in a six-man tag match at the Anniversary show. They didn’t have to wait for an answer as Marty Goldstein came down to the ring, and upset at the actions of Nagasaki made the match.

Bout #2

Phil LaFleur v Dynamite Kid

Exciting, uptempo match. Lafleur was able to match Kid move for move for the first 5 minutes but then Dynamite took over by breaking the rules. Kid nailed a snap suplex to set up his finisher.

Dynamite Kid defeated Phil LaFleur by pinfall after a diving headbutt at 7:05

Post-Match:
Dynamite Kid was interviewed in the ring. He says it is a crock that people are comparing Ben Bassarab (LaFleur’s partner) to himself. He says Bassarab is a poor imitation of the Dynamite style. He says he will meet Bassarab at the Anniversary show and beat him like a red-haired step child. Maybe then people will stop making the inane comparisons and will start comparing Bassarab to an acorn squash, or any other vegetable.

Bout #3:
Challenge Match (Handi-cap match)

Bad News Allen v Tex Cobb & Keith Hart

Allen comes out and throws out a challenge to Cobb to meet him in a wrestling match. He claims Cobb was almost beat by Rocky Stone so he’ll be no match for an Olympian like Allen. But he says it isn’t fair so he tells Cobb to bring out a partner and he’ll beat both of them. Cobb comes out, alone, and accepts the challenge, saying he doesn’t need a partner. However, when Keith Hart comes out and offers to partner with Cobb, the former Boxer agrees.

Cobb does quite well to start, gaining the advantage and tagging out to Hart. Likewise Hart keeps the advantage and makes a quick tag to Cobb. Allen though comes back with a thumb to the throat and starts to work on Cobb. When Cobb tries to fire back with fists he is stopped by referee Wyatt Hall. Cobb plays Ricky Morton for awhile before making the hot tag to Keith Hart. Hart though walks right into a chop to the throat and Allen goes to work on him. Cobb keeps trying to get into the match but everytime he does, it forces Hall to escort him out of the ring which allows Allen the chance to cheat. Finally Allen nails Hart with the enzuigiri and would have got the pin but Cobb comes in to break it up. He goes to work on Allen, tossing him out of the ring and then throwing him into the guardrail. Hall has seen enough and calls for the bell.

Bad News Allen defeats Tex Cobb & Keith Hart in a handi-cap match by disqualification when Cobb was disqualified for interference at 10:50

Main Event
RCW Heavyweight Championship Match

Chris Lyon (champion) (/w Tawney England)
V
The Destroyer

Lyon came to the ring dressed in his Superstar Billy Graham impersonation gear. He says he just wanted to remind fans who it was that defeated the legend, and that he was the greatest RCW performer ever, despite being tied with the Destroyer with 3 title wins each.

Lyon seemed to put his money where his mouth was starting strong and controlling the first 5 minutes of this match, never letting Destroyer catch his breath. Lyon was targeting the lower back of the masked challenger setting him up for the Boston crab. Finally Destroyer started to make a comeback. This prompted Tawney England to jump on the apron to get involved, but Destroyer anticipated the attack from behind and took Lyon down with a step-toe hold, sending him crashing into England. Destroyer used a backbreaker on Lyon then noticed that England was still lying immobile on the floor. After a slight hesitation he left the ring to see to her. Suddenly she seemed to revive and give Destroyer a roman-greco liplock. Lyon snuck up behind him, locked on a full-nelson. Lyon punished Destroyer by turning the full-nelson into a slam before re-entering the ring. Back inside it was all Lyon again, but when he tried to hook on the Boston crab, the Destroyer kicked him off sending him to the buckle. Destroyer rolled him up on the rebound and got 1, 2, Kickout!
It was all Destroyer now, with forearms, hiptosses, and a pair of waistlock suplexes. He went for the crucifix into a pin, but Lyon managed to roll through it, get up and clothesline Destroyer right to the throat. As the masked man held his throat, Lyon hovered over him and dropped a knee right to the “lower” abdomen. Referee George Gadasky warned him about disqualification but allowed the match to continue. Lyon then put Destroyer into the Boston crab. After over 30 seconds in the agonizing hold, Destroyer managed to hit his hand hard enough into the booted foot of Lyon to lose his balance and break the hold. Lyon began to choke Destroyer and only broke the choke when ordered to by Gadasky.
We skip forward now through a few minutes of the match edited for TV time.
Destroyer is making a comeback, supporting himself with the ring ropes, and lashing out several kicks to the champ. The fans are really behind him, smelling a title change perhaps. But Lyon managed to distract Gadasky, and this allowed Tawney England to jump onto the apron with a chair.
She was about to nail Destroyer in the head or back with it when Mike Valiant came racing down to the ring and pulled her off the ring apron. Both Destroyer and the referee turned around to see what looked like Valiant menacing England with the chair. Lyon tried to attack Destroyer from behind but the masked man was ready for it again and turned in time to catch Lyon with a forearm. Lyon fell down like he had been shot.
Instead of going for the pin though the challenger left the ring to try and separate Valiant from England who were now yelling at each other. Gadasky was distracted by checking on Lyon’s condition which then allowed the Bounty Hunter to suddenly appear on the scene and ~waffle~ Destroyer from behind with a cowbell. He then rolled the Destroyer back in the ring. Valiant chased BH away from ring side and into the back.
Inside the ring Lyon was on his feet first and hit a DDT on the Destroyer. He followed this up with a slingshot suplex to pick up the win.

Chris Lyon defeated The Destroyer by pinfall after a slingshot suplex and outside interference at 15:22 [approximately 11 minutes shown on TV]
[Chris Lyon retained the RCW Heavyweight Championship]

Opening Bout:
Women’s Tag Team Action

Tawney & Corrie England defeated Cherry Forever & Iron Maiden by pinfall when Corrie pinned Cherry with a schoolgirl at 4:18

Promo;
Mike Valiant is interviewed by Ron Strong who asks why he has a smile a mile wide on his face. Valiant says that sometimes Chris Lyon is his worst enemy and does damage to his title reign that his opponents can not duplicate. Recently Lyon has been running around mocking Superstar Billy Graham by dressing and imitating him. Well at the 4th Anniversary show the roosters come home to roost. Valiant says that the ink is drying right now on a new manager's license in RCW, with the name Superstar Billy Graham on it. That’s right the legend himself will be at the Anniversary show and in the corner of the challenger Mike Valiant.

Bout #2:
Non-title Match

Bounty Hunter defeated Super Uke by pinfall after the Lariat at 0:15

Promo;
Two muscular figures never before seen by RCW fans come on the screen. They are a woman and man, and although the man is much bigger, the woman by comparison may be more impressively built. In a Slavic accent the male introduces himself as Anton Rojack, and he is bringing his friend Valkrie to the Anniversary show. Rojack predicts that Valkrie will win the Invitational Battle Royal. He pauses, and looks her over while she poses. She’s about 5’10 with a muscular frame, and long blonde hair and blue eyes. He then turns to the camera and asks, who’s going to stop her?

Bout #3
Ben Bassarab defeated Rob Flett by pinfall after a flying cross bodyblock at 6:09

Promo; On Tonight’s National News
• Danuta Walesa's acceptance of Nobel Peace Prize in awards ceremony here for husband Lech Walesa featured; Nobel committee chairperson's response to Polish government's criticism of award being given Walesa.
• Greek ships scheduled to evacuate PLO (Palestine Liberation Organization) chairperson Yasir Arafat and his loyalist troops from Tripoli, Lebanon, reported demanding safe passage before leaving for Lebanon;
• Alabama Democrat Conf.'s endorsement of Walter Mondale as President and Jesse Jackson as Vice President. His (Jackson) claim that Conf., by not endorsing his president cand., betrays work of Martin Luther King, Junior.
• Outcome of first Pop Warner Pee Wee Super bowl between Dallas and Reno football teams examined; Johnny Manard named MVP.

Main Event
Six Man Tag Match

Brad Rheinghans, Jim Brunzell, & Mike Valiant defeated Angelo Mosca, Bobby Duncum, & Chris Lyon by countout when the fan favorites sent the villains running for the showers at 12:21

The heroes stand triumphant in the ring, but will it be that same way when they clash at the Anniversary show? Will Valiant with Superstar Billy Graham in his corner be able to beat Lyon?
Will Rheinghans and Brunzell be able to overcome the sheer size and power of Mosca and Duncum?

That’s it for the last regular edition of River City Wrestling for 1983.
Join us on December 15th live at the Winnipeg Arena for RCW’s 4th Anniversary Spectacular!!
