8th Anniversary Spectacular

December 5, 1987
River City Wrestling #311
Grand Forks, North Dakota

Opening Promo:
The 8th Anniversary Spectacular comes to the Winnipeg Arena on December 17th. Already signed in the main event will be the RCW Heavyweight Champion, Vendetta, defending his title against the man who he took it from, Strangler Steve Disalvo.

Ron Strong says they have some special announcements in regards to the 8th Spectacular, but to help him make those announcements is one of RCW's pioneers, one of the originals, Mike Valiant!!

The fans who remember him cheer for Valiant who was a member of the Triumverate before going on to feud with Chris Lyon. He was a former RCW Tag Team champion.

Valiant thanks the fans for welcoming him back and then calls out their first guest, Buck "Rock ' n Roll" Zumhoffe. Buck gets right to the point and announces his partner to face the Terminators at the 8th Spectacular for the tag team belts will be none other then Baron von Raschke!!

Video Tape: We get a short promo sent in by the Baron who promises to end the reign of The Terminators, and that is all the people need to know.

Moving on, Mike Valiant says that Madusa Micelli was complaining she had no more competition for her women's title so RCW has gone out and signed a top notch talent, and a former North American Women's Champion to challenge Madusa at the 8th Spectacular, Hollywood!!

Video Tape: The former GLOW Girl says she is returning to RCW to reclaim her women's title and that finally not only is Madusa going to take on someone more glamorous then her, but also more vicious and dirty.

Ron Strong says that as already announced newly crowned Stampede International Tag Team Champions Bruce Hart & Brian Pillman will appear at the 8th Spectacular to defend their titles. And tonight we will have a match to determine who those challengers will be as the Queen City Killers will take on the Top Guns.

Mike Valiant then announces that matchmaker Marty Goldstein has announced an opponent for Bruiser Brody at the 8th, none other then Owen Hart. That promises to be a fantastic matchup.

Ron Strong and Mike Valiant are then interrupted by TV title holder Chris Champion. Strong says, yeah we know you don't have to defend that title until the 8th when you will face Mike Lozansky. Champion though says he has something even bigger then that to announce. At the 8th Anniversary spectacular he will have a special edition of "Championship Material" with some information that will change the landscape of River City Wrestling.

Bout #2
Terminator Wolff defeated Nick Mercury by pinfall after a powerslam at 6:15
-Mercury had Wolff beat after making a comeback from an earlier beating. He climbed to the top rope but then that mysterious cloaked figure ran down to ringside and tossed Mercury off the top buckle while Terminator Riggs had already come out to distract the ref.

Interview:
Nick Mercury says he has no idea who that cloaked dude is, some kid who's played too much Dungeons and Dragons and now thinks he's some sort of tough dude. Well Mercury says he will be here next week, and then again at the 8th Anniversary Spectacular and will be waiting for him. He wants to meet the dude one on one.

-2nd>Junkyard Dog defeated Greg Valentine in a bloody dog-collar match as RCW brought in these two guys as a special guest main event
-3rd>Chris Lyon defeated the Destroyer in a steel cage match to retain the RCW Heavyweight title, and the start of the break in the Triumverate as Mike Valiant and Clarke Roenick refuse to enter the ring and celebrate with Lyon.

Bout #4
Winner gets shot at Stampede International Tag Titles
The Top Guns (Ricky Rice & Derrick Dukes) defeated The Queen City Killers (Jett Black & Alex Cambridge) by submission when Rice made Cambridge submit to the figure-four leglock at 7:36
-fairly even match that went back and forth, and stayed clean but intense. It started and ended with a handshake. But towards the end the Top Guns presed their advantages and really stood out as the better of the two teams.

Interview:
The Top Guns say they really don't know much about "Bad Company" Bruce Hart and Brian Pillman but they have found some tapes to study and will be ready to show them what RCW wrestling is all about on the 17th.

Bout #5
Owen Hart defeated Kevin Kelly by pinfall after a top rope somersault splash at 8:04
-Hart controlled most of this match but Kelly was hard to put away and then cheated his way back into the thick of things. He pressed his advantage with a standing bearhug, belly to belly suplex, kneedrops, and a powerbomb but couldn't get the pin. He then hooked on an abdominal stretch which he used the ropes for extra leverage on and off when ref Jurgen Hermann was not looking. Finally Mike Valiant left the ring announce table where he was doing gues commentary and gave the cheating arm of Kelly's an elbowsmash. This turned the match to the favor of Hart who finished it off a minute later.

Interview:
Owen Hart thanks Mike Valiant for his help in the match and says hopefully he is now done with Kevin Kelly and can turn his attention towards Bruiser Brody. Owen calls Brody a disgrace to wrestling (actually drawing some jeers from the crowd as their is a substantial pro-Brody contingent), and he doesn't think theres any reason for this match other then to pad the pocketbook of Marty Goldstein. Strong asks Owen if he's scared of Brody? Owen says he's not scared of any man, but yeah there are some guys he doesnt think much of, who are here not to build up the sport but to tear it down, and one of those guys is Bruiser Brody.

Promo:
"Helter Skelter" by the Beatles provides the music, Bruiser Brody and the St. Louis Wrestling club provides the carnage.

Pre-Match:
Vendetta comes to the ring to accept Steve Disalvo's challenge to make this non-title match tonight into a no-disqualification match.
But his words are interrupted when Kevin Kelly comes out and attacks Mike Valiant at the announce table. After a moment of hesitation Vendetta leaves the ring to go the rescue but no sooner then he gets his hands on Kelly he is attacked from behind by Steve Disalvo.
Vendetta and Disalvo brawl around ringside while Kevin Kelly pounds away at Mike Valiant. Finally Owen Hart complete with still wet hair from the shower and no-shirt comes down to make the rescue for Valiant.

Main Event
Non-title, No Disqualification Match
Strangler Steve Disalvo defeated Vendetta by pinfall after a piledriver and some outside interference at 8:54
-8:54 was the official time but it doesnt include the minute and a half before Buddy Lane was out and called for the bell when Disalvo was devastating Vendetta. When the match finally got inside the ring Disalvo worked over the champion unmercifully. For the first 5 minutes he pounded away at him with power move after power move, and three times he put on the Boston crab. Finally Vendetta, with one hand hanging onto the ropes to keep him up, used his other leg to kick away at the legs of Disalvo, then tackled him to the mat. After some mounted punches he worked a side bodyscissors while he regained his strength. He never had the chance to use it though as a new face in RCW, one that ring announcer Ron Strong informed us belongs to Lethal Larry Cameron of Stampede wrestling hit the ring. The muscular black man nailed Vendetta with a running boot to the back. Cameron and Disalvo then double teamed the champion and then Cameron left and Disalvo hit the champ with two running clotheslines, but couldn't get the pinfall. He then nailed a piledriver but couldn't get the 3 count. He then hit a DDT from the second rope but again still couldn't get a 3 count. Finally he hit a second piledriver to get the win.

That's it for another edition of River City Wrestling.

See ya next week!!

Promo:
RCW presents the 8th Anniversary Spectacular from the Winnipeg Arena, December 17th.

Interview:
Mike Valiant comes to the ring to interrupt the first match before it begins. He says he may have retired but he's still in good enough shape to beat a coward like Kevin Kelly if he wasn't jumped. So he says he wanted a match against Kelly at the 8th Anniversary Spectacular and that request has been granted by Marty Goldstein.

Opening Bout:
Non-title match
Madusa Micelli defeated Shelly Salter by pinfall after a German suplex into a bridge at 5:16
-squash match but Micelli did demonstrate a second finishing move in addition to her superkick on the eve of her match with Hollywood

Interview:
Madusa Micelli says she's not afraid of some powderpuff actress from Hollywood, and says there won't be a casting couch inside the ring for Hollywood to use to get "ahead". The champ promises to hold onto her North American Women's title on the 17th and beyond.

Interview:
Vendetta comes to the ring with something on his mind. He says that with Lisa Caress at ringside, and now Larry Cameron coming around and sticking his nose into the business, he wants to guarantee his back is watched. And the best way for that to happen is to have the match inside an unpenetrable steel cage. Vendetta says he wants to have the main event for the Heavyweight title at the 8th Anniversary spectacular against Steve Disalvo to be contested inside a steel cage!!

Bout #2
Non-title match
The Terminators defeated Shayne Tustin & Joshua Stroud by pinfall when Riggs pinned Tustin after a powerslam at 6:40
-both Tustin and Stroud are game young competitors with raw athleticism on their side, but eventually the veterans used their experience and cheating to lead them to victory

Interview:
Strangler Steve Disalvo comes out and surprises the crowd by accepting the steel cage addition to the title match at the 8th Anniversary Spectacular.
However, in return he wants to make a match for the main event tonight, a six man tag match featuring himself, Lethal Larry Cameron, and Kevin Kelly against Vendetta, Owen Hart, and Mike Valiant. It will be an opportunity to do some damage, both physically and mentally to their opponents of the 17th.

Bout #3
Mike Lozansky defeated Red Demon by pinfall after a flying dropkick at 2:33
-squash match, Red Demon offered no resistance what so ever

Post-Match
As referee Buddy Lane raised the hand of Lozansky in victory the Red Demon took out a pair of brass knux from his tights and Pearl Harboured Lozansky from behind. After that he delivered a series of punches to the head of a bloodied Lozansky. As Buddy Lane pulled the masked man away the Red Demon ripped off his mask to reveal Chris Champion, the TV title holder and Lozansky's opponent for the 8th Spectacular.

Interview:
Baron von Raschke and Buck Zumhoffe come out and the Baron comments on how he intends to bring a little law and order to RCW, to stop things like what just happened to that poor kid. Then Zumhoffe spouts out about how the Terminators should have finished him off like they did to Cummings because he has got back up, bigger and stronger then ever before, and has himself a partner who knows how to take care of business. Raschke seconds that notion bringing back memories of partnering with Greg Valentine and the Crusher to name just two, and how he and Buck are going to take care of the Terminators for good. Zumhoffe ends the interview by saying the match is dedicated to his friend Shawn Cummings who with the grace of God will wrestle again one day.

Bout #4
The Top Guns defeated Hoyt Daill & Tom Stone by pinfall when Ricky Rice pinned Stone while applying the figure-four leglock at 4:29
-squash match

Promo:
"Bad Company" Bruce Hart and Brian Pillman send in a tape saying they were not too happy with comments made last week by The Top Guns. They are pissed off that River City Wrestling seems to think they are somehow superior to Stampede and that Bad Company is coming to Winnipeg to show the fans that Stampede is far superior. Pillman says that what should have been a friendly contest just got moved into the sphere of hostility, which is just fine with them.

Pre-Match:
Nick Mercury came to the ring and said as promised he is here waiting for the troublemaker in the cloak to show up and take him on, one on one. He tells the Gary Gygax loving loser to put down his D20 and come to the ring.
The call is answered but not by one cloaked figure but by 2. After entering the ring one of the cloaked figures leaves the ring and stands in the corner, so it looks like we have a match. Not sure what else to do Mercury locks up with the first cloaked figure.

Bout #5
Nick Mercury v ???
-Mercury was all over the cloaked figure. He pounded away at him, but lost momentum when he seemed a little obsessed with pulling the cloak over his opponents head. It revealed a set of chunky, pasty legs, and blue tights and wrestling boots, but the cloak was too tight around the head to easily come off. The cloaked figure snuck in a thumb to the eye and then applied some chokeholds. But Mercury battled back and after a pair of dropkicks was going for a hotshot when the other cloaked figure grabbed his feet from under him and pulled him to the mat.
After the bell for the disqualification the cloaked figure walked away, and when Mercury tried to leave the ring to go after him he was attacked from behind by his opponent. The cloaked figure from the match again tried to choke out Mercury but again the youngster fought his way out of it. This time he managed to hit his hotshot and then pull the cloak over his head to reveal, Joe Mirto.
Nick Mercury defeated Joe Mirto (cloaked) by disqualification for outside interference at 3:59

Post-Match:
Mercury menaced and threatened Mirto, but the curtain jerker professed that he had been paid to wrestle and pulled out a small medieval looking gold coin from a cloak pocket. He says he has no idea who that guy was and that he never actually talked to him. With that Mercury keeps the coin and tosses Mirto over the top rope.
Mercury gets the mic and says he will still be around, tonight, tomorrow night, and the next night. So any time this..this..rogue...of a loser wants to get it on, he'll be here.

Bout #6
Baron von Raschke & Buck Zumhoffe defeated Big Green & Bobby Bold Eagle by submission when Raschke submitted Big Green with the clawhold at 6:50
-Big Green is, well, a big, green rookie who looked promising. In fact he and Eagle controlled Zumhoffe for a couple of minutes which allowed the hot tag in for Raschke to clean house and pick up the win.

Post-Match:
The Terminators hit the ring and attacked Raschke and Zumhoffe giving them a beat down. Big Green made the mistake of trying to help the Terminators so they beat him down too.

Promo:

Main Event
Six Man Tag Match
Steve Disalvo, Larry Cameron, & Kevin Kelly defeated Vendetta, Owen Hart, & Mike Valiant when Disalvo pinned Valiant after a piledriver at 7:54
-this match was absolute chaos, with the rulebreakers more concerned with hurting their opponents then winning the match. Vendetta, Disalvo, and Cameron all looked strong in this match while Valiant was far and away the weak link which doesn't bode well for his match against Kevin Kelly in 5 days.
