American Pro Wrestling

January 20, 2007

Pre-Match:
Vampiro comes to the ring carrying a 2x4 wrapped in barbwire, pissed off that he is being ignored by MAPW management. He says he just heard that he is not going to be one of the 8 contestents in the TV title tournament next week, but two new wrestlers will be in that tourney. He says someone is going to pay for that indescretion. He challenges anyone from the lockeroom to come out and fight him in a hardcore, anything goes match.
After a bit of a delay, much to the surprise of the fans and announcers, Billy Kidman comes out to accept the challenge!!

Opening Bout:
Hardcore Rules Match
Vampiro defeated Billy Kidman by pinfall after hitting him with the nail in the coffin outside the ring at 8:33
-it was a bloodbath, but Kidman gave his share of punishment out too. He managed to dropkick the 2x4 out of the hands of Vamp, and went to town. But the momentum only lasted so long, and Vamp managed to recover the 2x4 and used it to bloddy the forehead of Kidman before hitting his finisher. Although he lost the appearance did wonders for the fans perception of Kidman.

Interview:
Chris Champion says it's his pleasure (but with obvious sarcasm) to announce that yes there will be two new wrestlers in the 8-man TV Title tournament which will be held next week. One will be the Brit they saw last week Nigel McGuinness. The other is his guest at this time, returning to MAPW, having turned over a new leaf, MAPW tag team legend, now looking to make a return to the ring as a singles wrestler, formerly one half of the Spinebusters...Jerry Orth!!
The fans are shocked, and give Orth a mixed reaction, boos for old deeds and habits, cheers for nostalgia sake.
Orth says yes, he has turned over a new leaf, that at this stage in his career he wants to do things right, and wants to go out on a positive note. He says capturing the TV title and giving the fans a champion they can be proud of is the first step in that process.

Bout #2
Triangle Match
Natural Born Thrillers: Sean O'Haire & Mark Jindrak defeated Dustin Rhodes & Javier Reyes and Scott Vick & Mentallo by pinfall when O'Haire pinned Reyes after a Seanton bomb at 7:40
-solid three way match that salvaged some heat and momentum for the newly reformed NBT after losing in their return match last week.

Bout #3
MAPW Women's Title Match
April Hunter and Rena Mero battled to a no-contest at 5:06
[April Hunter retained the MAPW Women's Title]
-Hunter controlled early as would be expected, nailing some especially vicious looking forearms and a Frankensteiner. However, she toyed with Mero too long and the challenger made a spirited comeback. This brought out Adam Riggs to ringside to distract the ref, which brought out Brock Lesnar. Riggs and Lesnar went at it and their fight spilled into the ring causing referee James Beard to throw the match out.

Promo;
We see a typical urban English brownstone house. Inside is a woman ironing clothes while her man sits on the couch watching TV and drinking a Guiness. It's the same man from last week's promo, Nigel McGuiness. But we see this all from a black and white videocamera, a peeping tom looking in the window. The camera then pans to show two of the men beaten up in last week's vignette. They rub their knuckles and swear veangence for Uncle Sam. The door is locked so they ring the doorbell, Nigel yells for the woman to get the door "maybe its one of my girlfriends", and as she answers the men push their way past her. Nigel sees them coming but can't get off the couch fast enough. One of them tries to pin him to the couch while the other punches at his head. Nigel though hits him on the 'noggin with the half empty Guiness and tosses them both off. He scrambles to the ironing board and grabs the iron, pulling the chord out of the wall. The men scream as Nigel smokes them both, and then the camera man with the iron. The camera sits on the floor, as the men scream, cry, and whimper. We see the feet of Nigel walk by, his hand picks up the beer bottle, and he yells "woman, get me another beer, seems these American pantywaists spilled my pint".

Bout #4
Trent Arion defeated Sam Holiday by pinfall after a second rope crucifix slam at 10:02
-Holiday took the youngster to school through most of this match, working side headlocks, punctuated with a bulldog. He worked a series of spinning toeholds, a standing surfboard, did the count to 10 smashing his head off the turnbuckle, and took two nearfalls after hammerlock suplexes. But when he went for the Holiday legdrop, Arion managed to roll out of the way. The Adam Riggs protege only took about two minutes to totally dismantle the MAPW legend, with spinning backbreakers, piledriver, and an inverted DDT. A pair of flying headscissors, and a neck snap coming off the second buckle set up his finisher.

Post-Match:
Sam Holiday did not immediately get up, and after being checked on by referee Tony Zerucha the medics were called for. Holiday seemed hurt and they brought out a stretcher as a subdued crowd watched the fan favorite helped out of the arena.

Bout #5
MAPW Tag Team Title Match
Asp Evergreen & Eddie Chavez defeated Dan Severn & The Stalk by pinfall when Chavez pinned Stalk after an inside cradle at 9:25
[Evergreen & Chavez retained the MAPW Tag Team Titles]
-Evergreen and Chavez used their tag team experience and double teaming to gain an early advantage over Dan Severn which really pleased the crowd. But the Overlords tandem soon fought back using their superior brawling and wrestling skill. The turning point in the match came when Joanie Laurer of all people came out and started to jaw with Severn, distracting both him and the Stalk. The tag champs hit Stalk with a double dropkick from behind and then Chavez rolled him up while Evergreen pushed Severn out of the ring.

Post-Match:
The Tag Champions stared at Laurer who smiled at them and blew them a kiss before leaving. Chavez reached out and grabbed the kiss out of the air and was going to stuff it into his tights but Evergreen grabbed his wrist and started to wrestle with his tag partner, trying to take the kiss away from him. Eventually Chavez's fist opened and the kiss fell out. Both looked at the now dirty kiss on the ground with a frown on their face before taking their tag titles and leaving for the back.

Interview:
Brandon Myers is interviewed and offers no apology for attacking Angle last week during their match with a chain. He says that Angle has been trying to cripple opponents for years with his ankle lock submission, and now he crys when the favor is repaid.

Bout #6
Brock Lesnar defeated Robert "Blaze" Bayley by pinfall after an F5 at 16:05
-tremendous, and long match between two of MAPW's best. This one went back and forth with no clearly dominant wrestler. Referee Buddy Lane let the two men brawl for an extended period of time outside the ring without throwing the match out. Bayley finally got caught coming off the top rope, and Brock went to work with two gutwrench suplexes before hitting the F5 and picking up an impressive and clean win.

Interview:
Kurt Angle is interviewed. He says he is hurting a bit but with next week off on top of this week, he will be ready to go and wants a piece of Myers on February 3rd. He says he has never tried to cripple anyone with the anklelock and he doesn't need a chain...Brandon Myers slips into the ring with a chain and attacks Angle from behind. He gets in a couple of shots before Angle pulls his feet out from under him and puts him in the anklelock. Myers manages to kick out but rather then engage again, he rolls out of the ring and heads for the hills.

Main Event
MAPW Heavyweight Title Match
Petey Williams defeated Adam Riggs by countout at 9:34
[Petey Williams retained the MAPW Heavyweight Title]
-this match quickly deteriorated into mayhem. Riggs was pushing the envelope daring James Beard to disqualify him. He used a ref bump to introduce a chair and whack the champion. He also astonished the crowd by leaping over the top rope and hitting Williams with a head tope. The Irish Thug lived up to his nickname busting the champ wide open but before he could finish him off Rena Mero came out and started to yell at Riggs for costing her chance at the women's title. Riggs grabbed Mero by her hair and forced her to her knees. April Hunter came out though and before Riggs could do anything she drop kicked a prone Mero right to the face. This brought out Lesnar who clotheslined Hunter, flipping her right over in the air. Lesnar scooped up Mero in her arms and headed for the back. Riggs was going after Lesnar but was attacked by Williams. Petey went to work looking for a little revenge, and then was persuaded to go back to the ring by James Beard. In the meantime Lesnar put Mero down and went back nailing Riggs from behind and then nailing him with an F5, none of this seen by James Beard. He applied the count and Riggs could not answer the bell.

Color commentator Linley Tolbert calls the entire title reign of Petey Williams as being a big giant farce, and doubts he has had a clean win yet.
